having the dsg gearbox sorted under warranty

Featured Replies

when i test drove the Superb i noticed it got confused at roundabouts etc as to what gear it should be in

sometimes it will drop into 1st and scream when taking off(when it should be in 2nd)

or stay in 3rd when 2nd would be better

anyway

Leeds Skoda had it in last week to look at the issue and when he checked there is a recall or at least an admitance that there is an issue by SUK

apparently it is a sensor in the box that gives information on speed and position etc so the box knows what to do

the original sensor has now been superceded by this new part and anyone with these issues should be able to get it done for free

mine is 4 years old and there is no charge

i dropped the car off today and it should be ready tomorrow afternoon

i will try and get the relevant code or info so anyone else can get their DSG box sorted if need be

i wish i could get rid of the vibration in mine don't no if its the g/box or the engine but it spoils what is a really superb car its like the vibration you get in a manual car when its in the wrong gear.skoda have look at it twice but they say its ok?

when i get the number of the problem i will post it

then you can ask if your car is affected

if so they will swap the sensor out for free

That would be really helpfull as my DSG really struggles when you decelarate mainy approaching roundabouts. I thought it was normall. Sounds like it is a genuine issue.

Please keep us posted?

A faulty dual mass flywheel, DMF, would give the the symptoms you describe. It's there to dampen out low speed vibration inherent in most modern diesels. If it is a faulty DMF it will be there all of the time, and is easy to spot if two 170 DSG Superbs are driven back to back. So if you think this is it, maybe suggest you going out with technician in yours back to back with a 170 DSG on their fleet.

Cheers

Steve

thanks Steve have not thought off that as its automatic forgot about the clutch i will ask them fingers crossed you are right.

Does an auto have a DMF??

Hi,

Mine had vibration during acceleration in 2'nd just before it shifted to 3'rd.

The box was recalibrated at the dealer and it was then gone.

well

got a call off the dealer and Skoda UK will NOT pay for the repair as it is out of their warranty period

so

the dealer is trying to claim on the 12 month Skoda approved warranty (which is marked up as Skoda)

they (warranty people) want to send an assessor(sp?) out before any work is carried out

to say im not happy would be an understatement

had to go to doctors so got a call from them and asked them to call me back after 6pm

the dealer manager has just called me and has assured me that the person who called earlier had got it slightly wrong!

SUK will NOT pay for the gearbox part even though there is a TPI (if thats the right abreviation) out about this issue with DSG because it should have been done during the warranty period

D M Keith will be sorting this out and paying for it but they have to internally sort out which department will be paying which is nothing to do with me and the assistant had got this slightly wrong

the car will be done tomorrow but im busy so can't collect until Thursday

i have to say the service so far from D M Keith is and has been excellent up to press even with this small glytch being sorted quickly

the car is back (well yesterday am)

they offered me a courtesy car or my own back until mine is sorted but i opted for my own back

the part was ordered from my chassis number and arrived

when they tried to fit the part it was wrong :wall:

the part i need is now on back order

so the box is not repaired

the part that will fit my box should be here on the 10th of this month and then can be fitted

so will update this thread when i know what is happening

As you mentioned they are trying to do the right thing for you.

i have no problem with the dealer as they have already said they will sort it

im not happy the part is on back order but such is life

the part we are waiting for has now been put back until the 22nd of this month :wall:

apparently no stock!

there is 1 in the UK at a dealers but they wont let it go as it is earmarked for a car :wonder:

the part number we are waiting for is

7h0907652a

the part number we are waiting for is

That lists in ETKA as "Multiple Sensor" which is a kit includes a sensor and connector. List price in my (old 2010) version of ETKA is 404 euros ex.

i believe the retail with vat is near £550?

its not the price its waiting for Skoda to get it to us!

Yep, and despite all the problems, perceived, reported or otherwise with the DSG, I'd still have another one in a heartbeat (maybe not the 7 speed though). It's a fantastic box.

IIRC, that is the part number for the G419 ESP sensor. Picked one up recently from TPS for a mate's Audi

from what i have been told by the dealer and SUK the part that is fitted in my box was superceded by the one i am waiting for

they can get the exact same part that is in my box now on next day

technically mine is not faulty

it just does not do what the new one will apparently do

it was described by SUK as an upgrade to the box if problems arise with the gearchange

edited to add........

just called TPS Leeds

according to them its a "multiple sensor"

he cant get any info that says its a G419 ESP

they are indeed on back order and they will be a month before they could get 1

he says they are £500+

so at least i know

Just tried my local one for you, in case they had one in stock, but they already have one on backorder.

Are you sure they are ordering the right part? I'm at home today, but IIRC, the part you quoted lives near the steering wheel.

The 7H0 907 652A part is described as a multiple sensor or duo sensor and includes the Sensor for Transverse Acceleration G200 and Sensor for Rotation Rate G202.

Do you know which sensor in the DSG they think they are replacing?

in a nutshell no!

there is an issue when coming to junctions and then accelerating before actualy coming to a stop

the gear will have dropped into first or second and the engine revs are too high

the gear box takes a few seconds to sort itself out and get in the right gear

apparently this newer sensor sorts this out but it supercedes the part i have in now

where it lives in the car i dont know

i saw the Skoda bulletin and my issue was exactly as described on the bulletin and it said order said part

from what i am led to believe the sensor i have does not measure enough parrameters

my 2008 car must have been one of the first 2009 MY cars maybe? so it may only affect early models?

I have read most carefully the discussions on this topic and am now fairly sure that I have a similar problem with my 7 speed DSG, which is still under manufacturers warranty until July 2013 and covered only 12,000 miles. The car has a FSSH.

I have started to notice that as soon as the engine reached normal working temperature that low speed gear changes in traffic were becoming very jerky and on a number on occasions, when nearly stopping on entering a roundabout, the box will change down into D2 or D3. Not noticing this until I pull away I have revered the nuts off the engine. Changing up from this asap the box still stays in D and the changes are very uncomfortable for all passengers.

At first I thought I was causing the change down to D when I turned the wheel accidentally touching the paddles. After this had happened quite a few times and many B~###ling from SWMBO I am now convinced that the fault lies elsewhere.

So my proposed action is to copy all the relevant details from this post together and approach the local dealer. Having as much detail as possible will certainly help, as the usual action from the dealer will be to try and fob me off. I am beginning to think that DSG is a dirty word to many dealers as they do not have the necessary expertise to deal with the complex issues. Only wish I could take it to either Audi or VW for trouble shooting.

Quoting bmhill "i saw the Skoda bulletin and my issue was exactly as described on the bulletin and it said order said part from what i am led to believe the sensor i have does not measure enough parameters"

Does any one have any details on this bulletin as I would be in a much better position with the dealer if I was able to quote chapter and verse.

All advise and comments appreciated and welcomed. Thank you.
