Diesel Rhino - fuel treatment (alternative to Millers Ecomax)

Featured Replies

I hadn't heard of diesel rhino before and I was going to order some more millers diesel ecomax.

But I came across this thread on UK Mk IV forum: http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/489818.aspx

There is also a thread here too http://www.vwt4forum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=215993

Always willing to try new things, I contacted Ron (who is behind this product) and ordered some to try. I've also asked him if he would be prepared to offer members of briskoda.

He said he would and I will set up a promotion in the group buy/promotion forum if anybody else is interested in giving this product a go.

It might be snake oil, it might be the best thing ever to grace our diesel fuel tanks. But proof is in the pudding or so they say.

So I will give it a go over the next few weeks and give some feedback on it. As I use a tank of derv at least once a week, I should be able to give it enough testing!

More info on their website here http://www.dieselrhino.co.uk

I've just been treating the motor recently to the top stuff, shell v diesel etc.

I don't use a ton of fuel lately so why not treat the motor and its useful to run this stuff through every now and again although its all I've been using lately. I'm sure that comes with better quality fuel and detergents etc. Fuel is so expensive nowadays what is less than 10% for higher quality fuel treating the car now and again anyway.

No so keen on the snake oil to be honest. What is to say that spoiling the car with stuff like v-max isn't just as useful (and cheaper).

It does need firm data though, quantitative not the snake oil placebo results as you mentioned.

If its proven then I'd be interested. Surely as the filter is designed to capture water then this is already by design.

Let me know how this goes and ill jump on the group buy. Did you buy 2.5 litres? What way does it come packaged? Like the killers bottle? How are you adding it to the fuel :)

I'm dubious. It says it lubricates AND cleans the fuel system. Diesel is a lubricant. And liquids that really clean don't tend to be very good lubricants. I'd be interested to see how they get both properties. And I'd be interested to know why more lubrication is required, over and above that which regular diesel gives.

Received it today. Will post a picture of it up later. I went for 2.5 litres - economies of scale (hopefully!)

Including the 3-2-1 treatment at the start, it works out at £1.06 per tank extra compared to £3.60 using Shell V-power (8p extra for 45 litres as an example)

Will run down tank by end of sat, and try the initial 3x dose on sunday :)

The 2.5l comes with a smaller bottle with a tappered nozzle which will help putting it in the tank. With millers ecomax, I used a funnel into a 100ml glass bottle, might still use that botlle as just tipped straight down the filler neck! Will see what's easiest option!

So start with a triple dose to gets things moving, then a double and then a single from there on in?

Generally adding more doesn't do anything with Millers... so cant see it doing anything with this.

Wow another wonder product in a bottle, today most are mainly quackery, but its still alive and thriving judging by the many bottles coming out weekly promising everything in a bottle .In a very large retail outlet I used to work for many years ago, the staff in the warehouse used to have these types of wonder products on a shelf, that they called the dream shelf or the fantasy Island shelf. Some say Millers,RedX and now Rhino is the finest thing since sliced bread. Myself found little or no difference with Millers or RedX when used in several diesel cars and vans.Just drive sensibly to get the best fuel economy and use a good branded diesel to start with and thats all thats needed including normal routine service IMHO .

Funny, that ;)

Seeing as this thread is a bit quiet and varied opinions have been offered on the additive, then I just wondered then, is there any perceived benefit in running better diesel?

Perceived benefit is the whole problem. Proven benefit is what I want to see. The Rhino website for example, makes some claims but doesn't tell us how it does it, or offer anything to back it up. Not very convincing!

Perceived benefit / proven benefit goes for more expensive (note, I don't refer to it as better ;) ) diesel and the additives, whether Millers, Rhino or whoever else.

The guy who runs it would like to respond to some of the questions raised on here, but not sure if he is allowed to?

At least there will be two people testing it now!

The 25% off link from the other forum group buy appears to be working still:

http://www.dieselrhi.../discoffer.html

This working again as I agreed with him to make an offer to Briskoda members.

I reckon if the guy has some perceived benefit he should at least get you to quote him so we can see what the proven benefit is ?

Here is some info on the improved diesel and BP Ultimate that I thought would be interesting in comparison to the "addiitive" direction also. Could probably use a whole thread to itself but its useful to have the facts all to hand in comparison.

Personally I think I would trust the fuel manufacturer to improve the quality and get the additives "spot on", but if this guy has something to confirm the real benefits then lets hear it !

I'll put forward to him any queries/questions that come up on here and post back his answers.

If you can put my thoughts as above to him, that'd be great. I'd like to know what testing; I.e. under controlled conditions, has been done to verify the various claims. Fuel efficiency and injector cleanliness, primarily.

Not interested in anecdotal thoughts from customers who might be influenced by placebo!

Will ask.

Have you checked the threads on the other forums?

Thanks! No, do you mean to say there are *other* forums?
