  • i know, a year ago i logged on to try and figure out a fault code, now i have a car that cant drive through a town near me cos of an aggressive speed bump

think its the audi s3 you need one from, then you need some sort of trackrods from them aswell

Audi s3 and leon cupra R's use them and poss TT aswell but not sure on that,

Like said above our track rod ends dont fit

Best to go the whole hog with TT hubs and arms... and yes, the TT does.

Also they have a higher rated steering pump, which compensates for the gearing. Steering is a little heavier without it, as you would expect. Not a bad thing though...

So its not just a rack swap then ?

I could get my rack reconditioned ? Is that ok or iffy ?

Got a rack here Lloyd off mine, but god know how I'd ship it lol

yes the tt ones are quickracks, only the 225bhp models tho, don't get caught out buying a 180bhp spec one.they are a direct fit.You can get a recon rack, or yours refurbed, not worth it for the cost tho, as its gotta come out, might as well put the tt quickrack back.as demonufo says, time to fit the other associated bits like hubs, front arb, and wishbones with uprated bushes as you gotta drop the rack anyway. Also you should renew balljoints and tie rod ends, and might as well do droplinks.Sell those bits you have and you will have some spare $$$

i think trev has a quickrack?the rack secondhand should be anything between 75 if you are lucky, and 125 ish, you can find them on the bay, on ed38, golfgti forum amongst others, just trawl the for sale ads

Yep these racks all fit, TT 225, some later TT180's, TT Roadstar, S3, R32 and LCR have the quick rack.

On a buget you can reverse the VRS track rod end (upside down) and get away with using Audi or Seat ones.

Although I went the whole hog with mine , Hubs, Wisbones, Rack, FARB etc

thought all the 180s were normal rack?either way if you def get a 225 rack, then you know it will be good.as bowders said, i ran for a while the vrs hub setup, with tt stuff with no issue at all, if you are looking to save money, this is a good compromise (the hubs are the expensive bit as unless as they need the 2wd flanges/bearings in them)

Sweat mate..... Full on freak out :(

I dont even know what a steering rack looks like "sssssh stop it"

So witgout huds wishbones etc ( the whole hog ) are they still fine sturdy and safe ( not classed as bodge is it ? )

The whole hog sounds expensive :(

Just swsp the rack

The tie rods off your std rack will fit fine. Swap them like for like so what omes off one sid goes back on same side. Only need to swap sides over if you use the hubs off thoes cars!.

The only difference with the proper quick rack tie rods is they are thicker so dont go getting the tie rod ends from one of thoes cars unless you get the rods too.

Youll not need them tho just get new std vrs ones and use your tie rods.

Again make sure you put them on the right side.

Its a straight swap. Ide get the farb too seen as subframe comes off. Swap them bothe out and thats it youll not need to drop it again then. Leace the hubs n that as its expensive and not hard to do later.

Dont need anything else mate if the rack needs changing just change it.

List:

R32, tt 225, lcr, s3 rack

New boots posibly

New clips

New std tie rod ends(not essential as you could remover the tie rods from the rack and leave attached to hub if really strapped for cash.

New subframe bolts.

Ill get pn up for you lloys after work in the morning.

The rack trevorb33 has im sure we could figure a meet point on way down

If you can manage until then i could do a skoda courier for you and bring it to a services in bristol? I know its a bit away but i know you dont drive it much. For free of course

Just a thought

Edit: might be a bit out of the way for trevor actually as he is 40 miles east of the motorway im on.

It sucks :( just as was getting n habit of using him

I just swapped the rack for an S3 one and swapped my tie rod ends onto it. Had to borrow a big spanner for the 32mm nuts.

aye getting the spanner is a problem but mine werent on that tight at all, which was nice

:( dunno what to do

Id sooner avoid like a mickey mouse aftermarket one

well if your searching for one, and can wait till i come down, you can search a wider area, and ill bring it.

i know of a vrs breaking near me, want me to price it, ill get it cheap if i remove it

Are you sure its rack? What are the symptoms???
