How long is my warranty?

Featured Replies

I have a Sept2010 Octavia.

I know that the warranty is 3 years, but I beleived that the mileage was limited to 60,000.

So far I have covered 76,000 miles in 2 years and 2 months. I broke down on Friday (Exhaust Valve) and was told by somebody at the dealership that the warranty is unlimited for the first 2 years, and then the third year only covers for upto 60,000.

Fortuantley I have a 3rd party warranty on the car, but only covers me for £60 per hour labour and my local dealer charges £170.

So, if I am only 2 months out of warranty I am hoping that I might be able to get something sorted with Skoda.

This is correct,

The first 2 years are unlimited mileage and provided by Skoda CZ.

The third year has a 60K mileage limit, so if you exceeded that in the first 2 years then you in effect have no third year. The third year is valid until it ends, or you exceed 60K miles. The third year warranty provides the same level of cover as the first two, however it is underwritten by Skoda UK.

Most normal car drivers average well under 20K miles per year, so a very large majority of drivers have no problem and will get the full three years.

If your car has full main dealer history, chances are you will get a good will gesture of some description from Skoda UK.

thanks.

thats what i thought.

what I find amazing is that if I had done 90k within 24 months this work would have been under warranty.

I also beleive that my local dealer charge an extortionate amount per hour, so I will have to try and get that dealt with.

Its a real nightmare of a situation and makes little sense, I took out the old extended warranty when ordering car so I have 2 yeas unlimited mileage then 3rd year is 60K limited but on years 4 and 5 its unlimited again......... So in theory if I had a problem at 2 years 10 months and I had done 65000 miles I would be safer just leaving it 2 months then I am covered again lololololol....... I think the 5 year extended warranty now offered has mileage limitations mine doesnt.

170 an hour?! Did you buy it from a Bentley dealer?

I am hoping she meant £117 but will find out tomorrow.

Whats actually broken on the car as Exhaust valve dosnt mean much ?

dont know exactly, it was an error N18 which is EGR defective(?)

they reckon it is a 5 hour job.

£170!? I just covered my keyboard in tea.

Even £117 is way out, even my local BMW dealer are less than that.

For what it's worth my local Skoda main dealer charges £70/hour labour.

The EGR must be in a a real tricky to get to place on the Octavia then......I had to replace the EGR on my Mondeo twice during the period I owned it......took me 15-20 mins with basic tools to do it!!!

I have just confirmed that it they 'only' charge £120.00 per hour!!

the reason it takes so long is that on the old PD it was a 10-15 minutes job that the guy from the RAC could have done at the roadside.

with the common rail diesel they have to get under the gearbox(??) and this is why it is listed as a 5 hour job.

atleast with the 3rd party warranty I have, it should not cost ME more than £300 but I have now put a call into Skoda Customer SErvice to see how friendly they want to be.

On my CR the EGR is easy to get at, on the top, sounds like they are pulling your leg, and after the 5 hours will come back and say as its an electronic egr that it needs replacing at £x and another 5 hours to fit... *just saying*

Might be no harm to get another dealer's opinion

It was acutally the RAC who pointed out that it was a 5 hour job. maybe he got it wrong.

I hope he has.

If you are brave enough to venture into this particular dealer you may want to ask them to have a quick look up at the sign above their showroom door.

It should say 'Skoda' not 'Audi'.

You may also direct them here:

http://www.skoda.co.uk/gbr/owners/national-pricing/pages/servicing.aspx

Skoda's National Pricing, that'll be a full service for £9 more than their hourly labour rate!

I pray to god that for £120 notes you get a free courtesy car, free wi-fi, the best coffee money can buy and a seriously pretty receptionist!

I have found a number of threads going back that quote the labour charge at £120 per hour, and I believe that I know the dealer concerned as its where my dad bought his Fabia, and my old Superb MK2 came from there as well.

If you're near Watford, then it's only about 40 miles further to Unit 18. Give Alistair a shout and ask how much.
