MFSW

Recommended Posts

Hello Folks

Just wanted to know that has anyone retrofitted MFSW in a FL??? The pre FL's used to have steering module under the steering wheel shaft inside cover next to the ignition switch. It is missing in my car(2011 FL). Does anyone knows where it is located???

So it means I have to buy one if it is missing in my car? I have only slip ring and I have checked through VCDS the steering wheel module and there I could see unticked options for MFSW, cruise control, DSG, Steering angle, etc. Do I need to buy anything else other than MFSW and airbag connecting cable?

Regards

It might help if you post up the part of the scan for the steering wheel. Here is the steering controller on a Vrs that I took for a test drive

Address 16: Steering wheel (J527) Labels: 5K0-953-569.clb

Part No SW: 5K0 953 507 BA HW: 5K0 953 549 C

Component: Lenks.Modul 008 0080

Revision: -------- Serial number: 90440LG8000FQ

Coding: 5080140000

Shop #: WSC 73430 790 00098

ASAM Dataset: EV_SMLSNGKUDS A05001

ROD: EV_SMLSNGKUDS_SK35.rod

VCID: 70E5F7BFAB40F398D15

No fault code found.

Part Number 5K0-953-549 Control Module Part Number Variant Notes 5K0-953-549 Lowline - 5K0-953-549-A Midline #1 5K0-953-549-B Highline - 5K0-953-549-C Midline - 5K0-953-549-D Highline #1

from the Ross-Tech wiki site we can see that the controller is a Midline version. So doesn't support MFSW

If the option is there for mfsw then you should try it, if it saves money.

I have a MFSW fitted to a non DSG FL Octy vRS, the link is extremely useful, i will howwver summarise for you:-

You will need:-

  • Access to a copy of VAGCOM
  • The MFSW, plus the small additional mini wiring loom ( i bought mine from Skodateille in the czech republic it was cheaper than UK even with postage).
  • Check that the steering wheel controller is a ' Highline ' version, you can get the current number from a VAGCOM reading & check out the link for the correct version you will need, You will probably have to buy a new one, I got mine from AVS, the parts man was VERY helpful & mine was slightly cheaper than from a dealer even tho AVS source from SUK.

Once you have all the parts then its just a case of :-

  • Carefully removing airbag & steering wheel,
  • Swap out steering wheel controller unit ( if needed)
  • Plug in the additional mini wiring loom into the new controller & feed through into new wheel & plug in
  • Refit new wheel
  • Re attach airbag

The awkward bit is to code in the new wheel, this is where Gizmo68 & VRSPhil have worked out the new code that can be input to ensure ALL the buttons on the wheel work & that the MFD buttons are disconnected from the stalk & transferred to the wheel. However you do not say if you have DSG as there will be a slight difference if you do have DSG

I can say that they all now work brilliantly & was worth every penny spent, with no fault codes remaining on the ECU

It is part of the slip ring

My new Vrs should be here soon, I have the new wheel and new controller waiting for the car.

Pics will follow once I have done the job

Eddie - recheck the controller on your car when it arrives to verify which part has been installed.

Also when i was speaking to AVS, to buy mine, their copy of ETKA only had midline & highline available to buy, & most of the older letters at the end of the part number were not available.( only S & T available)

When you check the codes in the link & match the letter suffix with 'Highline' column, be aware that when you speak to either AVS or Skoda parts that part numbers ending A - E may not still be available, as I could only get an H due to previous versions no longer being available.

Hello folks

I was able to arrange a brand new suitable control mudule 5K0 953 569 A from the VW dealership. I got it just to try out first, if it does work then only I have to pay for it. I coded the module exactly the way my previous module was coded, but it didn't go well with the car. The horn stopped working though the horn was coded to run, and the module gave lots of unknown errors including some "ROD". The MFSW which I arranged just to try out worked, ignition worked, wiper & indicator stalks worked, airbags worked, but the horn was not working at all. Then the dealer gave me another module 5K0 953 569 B to try out, I faced the same issue again. The car is running well now on its old module with everything working, Any ideas what could be wrong???

No mate, I don't have a cruse control fitted. What em left is, that I should try get the module coded at skoda dealer through VAS after installation. Because em not able to do with VCDS because of unknown fault codes and no horn operation.

But has anybody installed MFSW in FL???

Alam

Yes, I got one fitted. No idea about the coding though as this was done for me. I've not yet experienced any problems with it though.

Sarge.

Can you check your coding for Steering Wheel & Controller, i think it should be same as Eddies.

VCDS Coding: 5082104000

MFSW Controller Module -Coding: 820000

Make sure your codes for each are as above & the horn should work.

Thanks eddie.

Helping my friend a retrofit a mfsw for his 2013 octavia (not the new one).

His steering wheel control module is 5k0953549. So i ordered the 5k0953549B like you did.

Just one doubt though. What part number did you order for the airbag wiring? I ordered 3T0971584.

Did i order the right one? Or should i have ordered 5K0971584C?

Please let me know. Need this confirmation before i can go ahead with the mod.

Thanks

Hey guys,

I'm looking to get one of these for my Octy, but i'm not sure what I need for everything to work. I tried phoning Skoda West End Garage Parts dept but they literally have no clue!

The guy stated that as my car hadn't been fitted with it at the factory he couldn't quote or tell me what I needed.

Can anyone shed some light for me?
