What are the springs for that everyone seems to have fitted to their fabia?

Bumping, this can you elaborate and tightening the handbrake cable?

The springs fitted to the rear calipers on a fabia are there because the internal handbrake return springs go soft and dont return the handbrake fully. Fitting external springs is the easiest way to cure this problem. as far as i am aware you cannot replace the internal springs it would be a new caliper job.

I'm still of the opinion that normally, its a issue with the calliper/piston that is causing the handbrake cable to need adjusting - ie you will end up covering up the root cause. Buy a couple of external return springs > strip and clean pads and calipers and mounting frames > fully rewind pistons > rebuild including fitting the new external return springs > force the handbrake to find its correct adjustment - now I'd expect the handbrake cable setting to be okay or maybe just a bit too short!
