brakes replace or upgrade

Featured Replies

My rear driver side calliper has been sticking recently and have been warned it may need replacing. So do i replace or upgrade. Am i right in thinking that the callipers from a octavia vrs are the upgraded size and directly compatible with the fabia?

Also what would i expext to pay for full set?

All depends on your driving, if you just drive sensibly on the road I'd just replace the calliper and upgrade your pads.

If you are thinking of taking the car on track then I suggest upgrading

For the upgrade Octavia VRS, Audi TT and certain Mk 4 Golf's with 312mm brakes will fit

I would be reluctant to fit secondhand though

Can be bought off ebay relatively cheaply

This might be further daft question but if you buy 312 for front can the ones fron front then be put on back?

Yes that's a daft question lol! Leave the rear discs alone believe me. Just use quality pads that match your front brakes with the 312mm conversion.

I agree. The front discs do 80-90% of the braking, so it's pretty pointless upgrading the rear ones.

So just use a standard caliper, but with the same pad material as the front. Never put better brakes on the rear than the front!

I have brembos on both front and rear, just because they worked out cheaper but at service they said they had hardly worn. Which is good as i used to go through a set a year in my old car before the brembos that is.

I am only considering doing the back as it is the back drivers one that keeps sticking, so figured if i was replacing might as well go one size up.
