Winter wheels /Tyres

Featured Replies

Hi All

I am a little confused,as usual.

I would like to buy a set of winter wheels and tyres but not sure whether to buy the wheels and tyres seperately.

I have a 2012 Octavia 2.0 tdi VRS on the usual 18" wheels. I seem to be finding conflicting info on what size tyres and wheels I need to fit for winter.

What width, PCD, Centre bore, Offset, Etc Also what size tyre.

I am sure this has probably been asked before but I cannot find any questions relating to it.

If anyone has this information please let me know as the weather is turning colder and I would like to get them on the car ASAP.

Thanks

James

16 inch wheels with 205 55 16 winter tyres of your choice. Places like mytyres.co.uk will do sets for 500+. Someone this very forum advertised a set for 300. You can look at wheelfitmemt.eu for others that share same wheel pcd bore etc.

You don't have to run 16s as winters - they're just a popular option.

pooser, I bought Skoda 16" steel wheels with Hankook winter tyres fitted & balanced delivered to my door for £460 from Rainworth Skoda.

Dan in Parts was very helpful.

I didn't get too worried about all the technical stuff - I just asked to check that they would fit my 2010 vRS.

They do and I'm very happy with them.

Good luck!

5 x 112 with 205/55/16 tyres are what you need as a minimum. You need 16" not 15" on a vrs to clear the brakes.

£460 ia about the right price for new steels with decent rubber. mytyres.co.uk do a set of steel wheels with something like Hankook W310's for £462.12 delivered so the £460 from a dealer is a good and competitive price.

Did considerable research on this subject - mind boggling!

My prob is that I bought a L&K Octavia and it is on 225/45 R17s - should I buy a new wheel/tyre set or just go for replacement winter tyres?

In the end (mostly to avoid this question of whether to tell insurance or not) I decided on a direct winter replacement with the same tyre size.

As you know these tyres don't come cheap but in the end I opted for NOKIAN WR D3s which with one blip have been the best snow tyre in recent tests.

Best price by far at Oponeo.co.uk. I paid £113 per tyre but see they are now £111. I will vouch that you can't beat this if you don't mind supporting a Polish company (they do use a UK transporter however).

Incidentally if you haven't time for research, the Continental TS850 has been carrying all before it in the overall best winter tyre tests.

Always nice to see help gratefully received. Its the thanks you get from offering your advice to someone who's asked for it that makes it all worthwhile and makes you want to do it again - or not (you know who you are).

Agreed!!

The TS830's are excellent, I will be replacing them with TS850's next winter I reckon.
