Pollen filter, where the hell is it!?

Featured Replies

Can't find this under the glove box anywhere, I even removed the whole glove box looking for it & then had a right game getting the stupid thing back in.

Before I totally lose it, can someone post a pic of where I should be looking or give an idiots guide to locate it?

Cheers.

I know it has but like I said I can't find where I'm supposed to be looking.

If you look up behind the glove box, like from the footwell.

You should see a foam kick plate cover, if you remove this you can access the plastic panel that holds the pollen filter.

I've got a pic somewhere, I'll try find it

Great stuff, I ripped that foam cover off as it was doing my head in!

Be prepared for some crap to fall out, when i got my car first thing i did was change oil, pollen filter and air filter.

the crap that was in the pollen filter was unreal clearly never been changed, likewise with the air-filter (what a total nightmare that is)

OK. I have removed the foam panel. Underneath that is the pollen filter housing- I can see the filter underneath a black rectangular cover. How do I remove the  cover and then the filter ? Is it a tool job? It is not obvious how to proceed.

The cover slides to one side and the filter drops out

The link in post number five says you slide it to the side. Have you tried that?

Yes thanks, I found a link further down in the pinned instructions and got the filter out and the leaves and insects.... . I see that I have not got the fasteners for the foam it was just wedged in place. Looks like a certain garage lost them in the past. Grr.

A Mahle cabin filter was bought very locally for £9.10. It is floppier than the Unipart filter I removed and differs in minor constructional and sealing details. But once I figured which way round it was to be inserted- an easy job in retrospect. The foam sheet stays in place without the fasteners when tucked behind the fascia lip.

Thanks guys.

Is it the right one, Should be the carbon impregnated type, Looks dirty (greyish colour) out of the box?

It is the correct one according to the box and yes, you are also correct, there is also a more expensive carbon impregnated one. £14 or so.

Not had any bad smells which I guess the carbon is intended to absorb.

I now notice the instructions on the Mahle cabin filter box mentions LHD. This is puzzling as it fitted OK underneath the glove box to my RHD vehicle and I can not imagine a small UK stockist would keep LHD parts. Or are Mahle themselves confused with terminology?

same filter both sides LHD or RHD.  The don't print special instructions with everything upside down for Australia either :-)

I made the mistake when I changed mine of having my face under it when I pulled it out. Got a mouthful of years worth of dirt.
