Octavia 1.8Tsi around town

Featured Replies

I make no apologies for harping on once again about just how remarkable this engine is

I have been keeping an eye on the MPG whilst blatting around town over last few days I regularly got mid thirties

The car is so much fun.. reliable, refined, fast, understated and if you can find one an absolute steal

Agreed, agreed.

The car drives very like my recent Audi A4 3.0 TDI in terms of torque but much quieter at normal revs.

I was so pleased I got it right at the end of July 2012 - must be one of the last Octavia mk 2s.

Just changed tyres today from Bridgestone Turanzas to Nokian WR D3s for the winter on 225/45 17s.

Intriguing to find out how the car will go over winter!

Yes it's a shame they stopped the 1.8 TSI. I wanted to upgrade from my 1.4 and couldn't get one so had to make do with an extra 10PS, 100 NM and on ave an extra 10 MPG

Try finding a used one that isn't silver or 300 miles away (and under 12k :))

Too much like hard work, easier to find rocking orse droppings! It was strange- when I wanted to updrade from my 1.4TSI the dealer said they stopped making the 1.8 because the 1.4 was so popular (guess Skoda may also have had loads of 1.4TSI engines, or less factory space as they start to plan for the mkIII). Probably down to initial test drives too I guess- I was impressed with the 1.4 on the test drive so bought one and it was only after owning one for 12 months and used it in a variety of situations that I decided it didn't have enough 40-70 acceleration for me, so I can understand why you like your 1.8!

Yes.....I know a guy with a 535.....the diesel version.....even it absolutely flys. It's got 300bhp I think.

Slap a K04 onto your current ride then and still retain good economy around town... ;-) (not bad imo for my morning stop start commute with over 300bhp and 300lb/ft torque)...

1.0 'c thats cold

Love my L&K. :)

I think this might be of interest for all of you lamenting the 1.8TSi, though it has to be said, I still think they would have caught him much quicker in a diesel Scout :giggle:

They did well .... Although they took a few risks. If they had the scout I think they would have run over him ;)

Just came back from a day trip over to Eastbourne. For those who don't know the area, parts of the trip like a rallycross route.

The car went like a dream every inch of the way - had to do a couple of flat out overtakes in 3rd and 4th, and I thought the thing was going off into orbit!

I'm going to keep it as long as possible, even if eventually it means forking out for the usual repairs - none so far !!
