mk1 Octavia which window should i break to gain entry

Featured Replies

hi

managed to lock my keys in the boot & windows all closed. looks like im gonna have to break a window to get in. anyone know which glass is the cheapest & easiest to replace?

cheers

take it you dont have a spare key?

you have AA or RAC?

if you're ok with a few basics, get one from a scrappers. Door windows are easiest to come by and cheapest and easiest to replace IMHO. £15 for the glass for my Fabia's O/S/R window, replacement instructions are in Haynes or you might find a thread in the realavent section. Don't go for a quaterlight, you'll need that **** Gavin from Autoglass if you do that.

yes but car is in garage & not covered at home

Smash any1 then claim on fully comp insurance. Usually £70 excess

you're a criminal :giggle:

anyway drivers door glass is on £20, but thanks for sparing a brain cell for me!

Mask it up before you smash it as the glass goes everywhere, i've just replaced 3 windows in a car that was vandalized at work and it took me a hour and half to vac all glass off seats and footwells, thats not including all glass that was inside of doors aswell

good advice, thanks :whew:

Shame it's not like my old 1991 Polo... Could get into that with a bit of string and some cardboard........

Before you break any glass cover the window in duck tape to try minimise the glass fragments me personally I would break the passenger side rear door glass as its a lot Easyer to handle when replacing but don't just go balls out with a hammer use a small screwdriver to start off the break Good luck

if the keys are in the boot and not visible with the back seat down, then you'll need to do the main back window though, the doors are deadlocked and you'll need to break a window you can climb through. Unless of course you have something really long and the keys are easily accessible, in which case something to hook the keys with, and the rear quarter window will do.

Wait wait, do NOT smash your window! Go to top rear corner of drivers door, and slowly flex the door out using something plastic, and wedge it to hold the gap open. Then unwind a wire coat hanger and leave on the hook at the end, fashion a slight curve in the hanger once unwound and straightened and insert in gap. Hook end around inside door handle and pull. It'll open. Once open get your knee in middle of door at back and slowly flex back into shape little by little and check the shut lines.

I had to do this and it works perfectly - no damage at all

Are you sure you purchased your car mr lofty :D

lol or is this how u got ur vrs bits lmao

Tehe :D

Well, no but the prices I pay some say is theft.

The other idea is a thin long piece of wood and hit the lock/unlock button on the door card.

I have the front door glass (both sides) and am just down the road from you mate :-)

Sounds like somebody could do with losing a little girth? :smirk:

Don't know about anybody else, but I could slip through a rear door window and between the rear braces easy enough...

another skinny youth? haha - i dont fink anyone eats nowadays

Youth? I wish...

I'd do the passenger side, the drivers is more fiddly with the window controls etc. (have replaced both sides winder mechanisms)

Thanks for all of the good ideas!........................ wedging door corner & hooking handle was a good idea but if (as mine) doors are deadlocked, then they wont open from inside handles. I got lucky as my key was in boot (estate model) & rear seats were folded down. Wedged open rear door corner & used a long rod to hook key & retrieve through gap in door. Has left me with the door corner not sitting quite flush in the corner but i can either fix that or live with it.

Best answer is BE MORE BLOODY CAREFUL !!!!

aha, good news, the door corner is easy to bend back mate, just flex and check, flex and check
