How to change ATF in octavia mk 1

Featured Replies

Skoda Octavia Mk1, 2004 , 59000 kms, India

Today i went for car servicing, engine oil, oil filter and atf change.

I was not much sure about the procedure followed by the workshop person to change Atf . They opened the drain plug underneath the gear box, drained some oil and then filled from the filler about 3 ltrs of oil.

Where as in workshop manual octavia automatic gearbox ( www.scribd.com/doc/80011855/skoda-octavia-mk1-workshop-manuals1-automatic gear ) they have shown inspecting atf level or top up page 37-22 . It says.

1. Place collecting vessel below the gear box.

2. Remove the ATF inspecting plug in th oil sump.

The atf in the overflow pipe runs out.

3. Check whether the overflow pipe is full screwed. ( is this pipe is present always in the transmission )

4. The overflow pipe must not be unscrewed.

If ATF drips out of the hole

It isnot necessary to top up the ATF

Insert screw plug with new seal and tighten. ATF inspection thus complete.

If only ATF present in the overflow pipe drips out of the hole.

ATF needs to betopped up

1. Pour Atf until ATF flows out of the inspection hole.

In my case i couldnt find any overflow pipe and the mechanic pluged the drain after draining oil and filled new oil approx 3 ltr from filler pipe.

It will be of great help if any one can throw some light on the matter
