Revving in neutral and then with clutch down. VRS

Featured Replies

Noticed today that when I rev my car in neutral it doesnt rev cleanly and is slow to return to idle, but when i put the clutch down and rev, it revs cleanly and drops back down to idle again.

Dont know if its something to do with the DMF, just wondered if anyone else has noticed this? Theres nothing wrong with the clutch that ive noticed anyway.

If you've not got the clutch in then your dragging the flywheel round to I think?

Yep, the rotating flywheel will assist in keeping the revs going, not only that but you are also turning the input shaft of the gearbox so thats more rotational force to keep the from dropping revs quickly.

Sorry slightly off topic. But is it good practice to start the car up with the clutch in?

It sure is, puts less load on the starter motor

Mine does this, but it also does the "quicker" throttle response if I take the play up in the clutch pedal, or push it in a tiny bit :S ......
