Bet it goes quite well mate. What sort of torque does it produce?

Well, i set off at 6.30am Wednesday morning to travel to Warrington where TDI are based. Once i arrived they got the car straight in on the ramps removing the old standard stuff =] Whilst they were cracking on with that i was in the waiting room where they kitted me out with an xbox 360 and a load of FHM magazines haha! So i was sorted, now and again id pop into the workshop to see how they was doing but it was so cold i quite enjoyed the waiting room. Paul then dropped me off at my hotel at around 2 pm (was when i was allowed to check in) , he took me out in their own FN2 Mugen type r with lots of goodies on it, included was their own designed cams which made the car around 270 bhp Naturally aspirated :o It was quick!

The next day i wondered down (hotel was down the road) to see how the car was getting along. All was going to plan untill they came to map the car :( First of all there was no boost. I was crapping myself as i thought id bought a dodgy second hand charger lol. But the problem was the previous owner whoever he got it tuned by put the maf pipes in a weird order that tdi have never come across. The next problem was a faulty lambada sensor that they used. Soon rectified the car was then able to be mapped by Paul =]

He was very impressed by the power that the car made and was very surprised how well the piper exhaust did.

heres the graph

Had a great time with the guys at TDI! Many thanks to Paul and Neil, they worked very hard, the car wasnt finished untill 9:00pm. I had a great drive home though lol. The supercharger wine is great, pulls a treat, so much linear power.

The final power figures were 304 bhp and 207 Torque.

Next is LSD

Congratulations :) is it quick? Lol

Oh and has economy improved? :D

  • Author

yeah its rapid !

Economy is around the 24-28 mpg i think. On the way back i used half a tank (131 miles) and i wasnt hanging about, wanted to play with the charger lol.

Sounding good Dan, I bet you are well pleased with it.

Congrats mate, that's a great result! Bet its great fun :D will surprise a lot of cars now

Videos! :)

Wicked... I bet you're well happy with that.

Yeah chuffed to bits. I need to do some drive by videos deffo

What's the brakes like now? Is it scary trying to stop the thing?

  • Author

Brakes on standard civic are epic anyway. The oem discs and pads are great! May upgrade pads if I do track days but oem offer great stopping power

That's not so bad then :)

What is it like to live with every day thinking of selling my fab for a type r as my insurance is dropping this year

With all due respect test drive a type-r before u buy one....my opinion...not a good drive at all..tinny like usual jap cars and uve gotta redline it to feel a turbo-esque thrust. Yukk! But hey thats MY opinion so check for urself mate

I only drive mine a few times a week . Don't really use it much to be honest! Standard ones are easy to drive. Get a facelift one or if you got enough money try for a premier edition. You get the Recaro seats and a few nice little touches. The facelift car itself has projector lights, lighter flywheel and other improvements such as the body kit and lights

Like Jed said you've got to enjoy ragging the crap out of a car. Which I do lol so it's perfect for me

Like mentioned get a test drive, but then you'd do that with any car!

People go on about lack of torque - but for use around the town its more than enough and is only apparent when sitting in 6th on a main road and wanting to overtake. You'll have to drop it to third to get past quickly, and keep it singing to the redline but thats what a type r is about!

Also, the civic feels much more solid to drive IMO, heavier and bulkier and gives more confidence.

Actually living with is it easier too - daft things like the rear seats fold flat without having to fanny on with the rear bench, and the boot is bigger too.

Oh and parts are cheap - I just got a new clutch fitted for £210 including parts and labour :D

Done a few things to the car lately

Put my new refurbished wheels on in black

New under tray fitted after an incident with a badger (badger won hard ****ers)

Fitted new rocker cover (cam cover)

Looks a lot tidier now.

Will get some more pictures when i have cleaned it.

Looking forward to seeing your wheels fitted mate :) I'm still considering doing mine myself as I've accidentally bought an RBC, DC sports 4-2-1 and AEM CAI this week... :D
