  • Nice, is it faster than a fab ....... Wait, let's not go there !!

  • Lol

  • Not that much compared to previous wins when i looked it up, but a nice 4 figure sum Best thing about it was they are my EX girlfriends lottery numbers!!! The reason why the fabia was sold because we

It's the standard cruise control stalk, with the ECU programmed to listen to "sequences" of cruise control button presses while the engine isn't running, which will change the code on the ECU to use a different map. Like Garry says, you can get a balls-out map, a "stock" (or APR's interpretation) map, and a boost-less valet map, all switchable with "secret" combinations so you know when you leave your car with a garage they're not ragging it around.

I also think the engine lock is a brilliant idea.

Even if they break into the house and steal the keys it won't

start until the code (Which you set) is entered. Genius!

haha yeh its alright, i check the oil once a week, but the last oil i used which was fuschs titan pro race something didnt burn that much oil , can only remember topping it up twice in 5 k miles. the stuff in there before from the previous owner must have been some cheap nasty stuff as it drunk that a lot haha.

whats yours like?

About the same I think mate, I've topped mine up twice in the 5k miles I've done - about half a litre each time because I'd rather run it on the full side than the empty side!

So whens it all getting fitted...? :D

On vtec with a super charger whine.......... Oh god, pass me some tissues.........

Nice one :D

You'll have to post up some dyno graphs! Im thinking of going the k100& map route this year - was that what you were going to do to achieve 250bhp?

  • Author

I will mate!

Yeah I was originally going for the magic 250bhp with breather mods and ecu.

Hondata have reduced ecu prices so second hand prices have plummeted. You can pick up a k100 ecu for 350 now!

Travelled to Darwen yesterday to visit Eightspeed! Great guy (Steve) who owns it and his mate Warren who carried out the work for me.

I had the Chain and Tensioner replaced, been hearing a few horror stories of tensioners failing at 60k so for peace of mind and for engine reliability with the supercharger i had it done. Also had valve checks and adjusted.

Heres some pics

This pic here shows basically VTEC. From what i can remember him saying basically normal car running it runs off the 2 rocker arms each side, Then when the ecu says its time for vtec which is around 5600-5800, a solenoid opens allowing oil pressure to engage a locking pin which locks all 3 together. The middle one is bigger so has a 'higher lifting duration' therefore working the valves harder, increasing power.

If anyone is interested heres a good video where he explains it a lot better than me.

The lad who did the job said when he worked at honda they would charge near the £1000 mark for the job to be done :0 Other tuners i asked said the engine had to be taken out so it would cost £600. He laughed and said he would get the job done in 4 hours with the engine still in the car. I watched him, and he did, with lots of coffee breaks (It was a Sunday!) too.

In the end i got charged half of what other tuners were quoting me, and a third of what honda would of charged. Cracking guys, very very impressed!

Nice looking Civic and good choice of mods

Eightspeed isn't far from me

Do you notice any difference after the engine checks?

  • Author

Eightspeed highly recommended mate

Yeah definitely! Throttle response is much better. Engine a little quieter too. Not too much to shout about but did make a noticeable difference. Peace of mind more than anything.

I've taken a real notion for one of these, I just feel they have such a reputation with them tho, and that it won't actually be that much of a step up from the fabia. Doesn't stop me looking tho haha

Eightspeed are top chaps - bought a lot of stuff from Stevie :) With the lower hondata prices Im definitely going for more power!

Wilsy - it isnt a huge step up from remapped Fab in straight line speed, but the driving experience as a whole is much more enjoyable IMO!

By the way Im not turning this into another which is faster/better thread! :D

Nor me nor me :)

If you are interested though mate, ring around first for insurance quotes. Although in standard from they arent greatly fast - a lot of people crash and write them off and because of this the insurance is tricky, most companies require at least 1 years experience of driving the car before you get a competative quote!

Not much in it straight line speed. Top end the civic will pull away where as the fabia runs out of puff.

Handling is on a different scale haha!!

New page new pics

It's the noise too tho, you can hear them coming a mile off! Haha not good for the coppers?? I like that I can make progress in the fabia and observers wouldn't really know. Anytime I drive a petrol car I feel so paranoid driving quickly lol

I love the noise. Smashing it too 8k rpm. What's not to love? I don't smash it around town and dont go to local mcdonalds meets so I don't get nuisance from the bacon. Only give it the beans in the open roads.

With the supercharger whining soon it's going to sound immense!

I bought a full set of oem wheels off a lad on the forum, for a grand sum of £80 :D Intentions of refurbing them myself.

Things i learnt were

ITS ALL ABOUT THE PREP!!

Heres some pics of the one wheel ive managed to do, the second one is currently in its primer stage.

The final finish is by means not perfect (Used too much of an aggressive wet and dry, overspill on the spray paint) But they are fine for me, im not a perfectionist in the wheel department as they are no doubt going to get chipped eventually.

For the filler i used some BodyAlu . found on ebay.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-ALUMINUM-Alloy-wheel-repair-filler-250G-silver-/360312961438?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Wheels_tyre_Trims_Trims_ET&hash=item53e453799e

wet and dry paper i got from ebay too, a mix variety grade 200-2000 i think? But i also used some more aggresive stuff from work as it was quicker lol.

Primer, Paint and Lacquer i used Simonez stuff

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250628901480?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Tack wipes for inbetween coats i used cheap stuff

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250919661831?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

I think the grand total for materials was just under the £50 mark.

If you have more patience than me, or are a perfectionist, i would probably advise getting your wheels done proffesionally. But as im a cheap skate i love to save money where i can haha.

Dan

Great work Dan.

I've still not touched the 5th silver spider I bought from you  even thought I have plenty of time on my hands right now :giggle:

Fair play for giving it a go and as long as you're happy with the results, who cares that they wont win any competitions!

  • Author

Cheers man!

haha theres plenty of time for that, and if i remember it needed some TLC lol?

Yeah i am pretty happy :) £50 for the materials and a bit of elbow grease goes wonders! Just realised for some reason the picture shows a weird white patch on the left hand side of the wheel, dunno why thats there cus its not on the actual wheel lol. :giggle:

Yeah it's a bit battered in all honesty but will get around to it eventually as the 215 tyre profile is too big for it to go in the boot so want to sell it! Did you find that they (the spiders I got from you) scraped on the arch lining when turning at slow speed when you had them?!? I know nothing about tyre sizes but am starting to think the 215 profile is not the right size

Well when you consider £200+ for a refurb, £50 and a not a perfect job does sound appealing.... the white bit looks like a thumb/finger print?!

Top work Dan - glad my inspiration helped.

I'm in the same boat as you hence why i refurbed all my own wheels.

Too tight to open my wallet but i have spare time to burn ;)

I also am not looking for perfect so would rather spend £50 doing them myself than 4 times that getting someone professional to do them.

Especially when you then whack them into a kerb and ruin them anyways!

Speaking of which I really need to start the work on making Mrs Pasty's wheels sparkly purple! lol
