Estate - improving handling

Featured Replies

Folks, my dad has a 1.8 TSI SE estate, likes it but thinks it is on occasion a bit wallowly and seems "crashy" over speedbumps - especially the front, where the rear seems to hop if there is no weight over the rear wheels.

There's not much you can do about the latter but I was going to suggest an Eibach Pro Kit and an uprated ARB.

Thoughts?

I have to say that mine - on 17" wheels - is by far the most comfortable car I've ever had and causes me no trouble over speed bumps.

My advice, slow down more over speed bumps and don't thow it around, it don't like it as you seem to have found out already, it's a long distance motorway mile eater, not a hot hatch.

I would not mess with anything, it does what it's supposed to do already.

As for the handling, mine got tested yesterday on the M4, it was peeing down, I was in 3rd lane driving through the spray from an artic in the middle lane and suddenly the empty lane ahead was full of a car spinning into the centre armco coming to rest at right angles across my path. All the time this was happening, my foot was buried deep in the floor, the ABS and fancy electronic aids were doing thier work and my Combi pulled up quickly, straight and under composure, the food shopping on the rear seat was another story. Now if I had changed just one thing on this car, would the result have been the same?

Tell him to stop thrashing it Johnny - has he been trying to keep up with you!!

Have no issues in speed humps with mine, does hop now and again but depends on the size/type of hump involved. Can't say that I've really tested it to be honest but then again it's no vRS.

Reduce the unsprung weight, fit an uprated rear ARB (or do both) and/or consider more compliant bushes. :)

I've got an Autotech ARB on my Octavia, might stick it on the Superb to see what difference it makes before forking out for one.

Eibach springs improved the ride, handling, braking on my Focus estate and was much more composed when loaded up.

I am also thinking of fitting an uprated rear ARB just to improve turn in as the Superb is a bit vague ....just need to sort out a price with someone including fitting

I have started looking into the possibility of fitting anti roll bars on my V6 Combi 4x4. I am getting some confusing messages about the various brands, diameters and their application to the 4x4 drive. Has anyone fitted arbs to a 2010 or newer Superb V6 4x4 Combi. If so then please advise. I just want to level out a bit of the body roll in the twisty stuff and where I live there is a lot of twisty stuff.
