car smoking white smoke

Featured Replies

Yeah stop guessing and take it to a professional and leave it with em to sort it.... Saw Josh's car at Coombe last year when his seal went in his turbo, didn't look pretty!

They're expensive things cars so don't feck around with it or it'll eat your wallet to get it right again

My friend owns a garage. And were trying to diagnose everything it could be, before removing the turbo for it to be sent away for warrenty work, as i need my car daily.

Seals maybe correct on this. But it only smokes when the cars water temp is over 80c.

is it losing coolant at all?

Nope none :(

Water temp rising means engines also warming (oil) perhaps its a slight seal bypass and only evident when oil warms and thins.

Poor running is weird though, thought about injectors? White smoke also = raw fuel. Maybe look into an injector issue too?

Mine smokes a LOT of white smoke on cold mornings, first thing, for about 15 seconds But is fine at all other times. This doesn't really help, does it?! :D

Lol I remember the plumes at Combe :D

I thought it was blue smoke that showed you are burning oil?

  • 4 weeks later...

My car has started smoking the last few days, only about 1000 miles after having a hybrid pd 150 fitted. I officially hate my car

Thats 3 of us now that are all smoking with pd150 hybrids. Im still non the wiser on why it does it but only does it when the car is really hot!

Can't blame got boost this time lol

Seriously hot oil going thin and bypassing turbo seals?

Mine does it all the time, not just when it's really hot :/

Should i go for thicker oil then?

Mine does it all the time, not just when it's really hot :/

That don't sound good.

An oil cooler would help Rich, if it is that!

Surely they have them standard?!

And it would make sence, for example yesterday my car wasnt smoking until id done all the horseshoe pass then stopped after id took a 'steady' drive

Sounds like you're boiling the oil then, be careful as it can cause damage internally, Jason, Luke and other fitted mocal oil cooler in the wheel arch, thermostatically operated ones so only used when needed. There is a small cooler beneath the oil filter but its inefficient with high power set ups

burning oil is generally blue smoke

un burnt / partially burnt diesel is generally white smoke ...

if your turbo veins were sticking wouldnt this cause the engine to choke and throw up a fault code for over boosting turbo?

our vw bora (pd 130) was similar it would run fine all day long but as soon as you put a decent load on the engine... boot it or a steep hill etc... it would go in to limp mode and throw up the fault code turbo over boosting, this was due to the turbo getting coked up

Turbo is defiantly not coked. Its less thana year old and my car beats astra vxrs ect. Its the fastest its ever been. I need to fix this problem though.

Had it sorted today :) took it back to the tuner, he adjusted the actuator and stop screw and tweaked te map and its sorted :)

I was going to say If it was oil it would be blue smoke. This time of year there is alot of moisture in the air and in the mornings it will look like white smoke pouring out of the exhaust when in reality it is just water evapourating.

Nah, it was definitely white smoke. All sorted now though so happy days :)

Why only 180 odd bhp?

Turbo can do much more :)
