They have DRL's, but they may have been 'deactivated'.

As George said, yes they do have the DRL's, mine were switched off, the switch is behind the cover on drivers side below the steering wheel, just under the little cubby hole. Hope that helps.

Still seems odd so many montes haven't got them switched on

As it's not a legal requirement (yet) they will all be de-activated, same as the Octavias.

If people are not made aware of them they will never know. Personal opinion but DRL's should all be LED, just for the asthetics.

Mine aren't or weren't deactivated (unless the supplying broker switched them on again).

DRLs are outboard, fogs in (I think).

Mine came deactivated but easy enough to turn them on, don't get the point in designing a car with them then selling them with that feature deactivated though, seems odd to me.

You would not sell a car with Sat Nav or Parking Sensors but say there is a hidden button inside the dash if you want to be able to activate them.

this is SUK we are about, so nothing you and i would consider common sense seems to apply in a lot of circumstances :)

and don't give them ideas for a hidden switch for the parking sensors :p

oh and to add a bit to this, mine and my daughters fabia's came with passenger side airbag disabled, NICE!!

Not everyone believes that annoying DRL's are a safety device, and chose to 'Deactivate' them.

(Some people are happy to drive with less bright Sidelights lit front & rear or Dipped beam, rather than over brights DRL's)

They may be required from EU regulations for the manufacturers to be fitting to New Models since 2011,

but they do not need to be on or working, and they are not required to work for a UK MOT.

(TPMS are no required as standard on all New EU Models, since Nov 2012)

Monte Carlo DRL's at least are not offensive like the stupid bright vRS DRL's that double as Sidelights. JMO.

Airbags need to be able to be 'Deactivated', for things carrying Baby Seats, Children act.

Side or Front Airbags & ones in Passanger seat bases that come up under your legs.

Up to the Buyer/Owner & the Supplying Dealersip or Technician to talk through different buyer & drivers needs & options to 'Switch on & off things.

WTF with these cornering lights right now.

If the person is in town & they are DRL's, why is one going on and off as they turn.

(& why are they not using their indicators.)

If they are 'Cornering Fog Lights' going on and off as they turn.

Why are they on in town on perfectly clear days.

& if you need Cornering Fog Lights on, then Indicate.

(not everyone obviously, but its how you most often notice these daft lights, you see a light switch off & you at least know a plonker is driving. JMO)

george

PS

To right you sell a car with a SAT NAV & it can be deactivated.

& Parking Sensors. Some people need to learn to drive and look behind & stop just trusting to Parking Sensors.

Drive like at the Driving test, look over the shoulder, use mirrors etc,

(& learn to use & read road signs & lane markings & read Maps etc.)

Mine were activated when I collected my car

Don't go there, George has been on his 'anti-cornering foglight' tour for a few weeks over in the Octavia and General Chat forums.

Half the battle is he doesn't understand how they work (despite being told several times).

DRL switched off on collection, now turned and nightbreaker + bulbs installed, much whiter light than the yellowy effect of the standard bulbs.

Oh quite like the little sidelights that have replaced the H7 'spot' lamps on the dark headlamp units, didn't appreciate they were illuminated with the main headlamps as well.

TP

Has anybody tried to fit LED bulbs in a Monte Carlo's DRL's? The bulbs look like a standard indicator/ rear light bulb so we bought some LED replacements and they didnt light up. Tried fitting load resistors to them and they still didnt work? I'm confused and getting in a proper 2 and 6 about it.... I was an autospark for 14years and I can't figure it out so at this point any sensible help is welcomed.

I dont know if you've seen this thread?

Silver1011 is not quite right there about my posts..

The light type and how some are driving or using them is no mis-understanding or figment of imagination for just me.

There is a Thread in the Octavia 2 section where there is member asking about Cornering DRL's.

There are cars going about with DRL's that do switch off as you turn the car, one light at a time, even if no indicators are used..

No matter if faulty or set/modified to do that.

It is happening.

Then there are those with Cornering Fog lights (or High Intensity lights, not DRL's) on during the day.

It is said by Silver1011 that these are only on with Headlights,

but actually, anyone that observes cars will see that some that used to drive with Fogs or Driving lights on during the day,

now have Lights enabled that also go out, one at a time as you turn.

Not in the dark or bad visibility. just in Daylight etc.

(Not DRL's)

This is not the Cornering DRL thread from Last Week,

or the 'People who drive with their rear Fog Lamps on in the rain' in the rain' thread,

Which is still running in 'Roadside'.

(i brought the subject of Cornering DRL's and Fogs, into that one.)

This is yet another, pearl of wisdom thread

I've seen cornering DRLs being used, but haven't really paid attention to whether

a) Their headlights were on (so the cornering lights assist in corners);

B) Their front fogs/driving lights were on before and one turned off, or were they off, so one turned on?;

c) Whether their indicators were on;

BUT I reckon the ones I've seen (Superb yesterday, Ibiza today, Golf most mornings) were driving along and as they turn the lights came on.

As I know one should have been indicating (the Superb, turning at a junction towards me, at a distance, saw lights [DRLs] come on, then go out), one may have been (Golf, staggered crossroads, moving across the stagger) and one may not have been (Ibiza, saw it htis morning, just can't remember where and whether it should have been indicating), I'm none the wiser.

If they are cornering lights, to assist in visibility on corners, then they should light up when you turn the wheel off of straight ahead, otherwise they won't be assisting much, unless you're indicating (when you'll probably go static before turning).

This is a new technology thing, that irritates me far less than the headlight bulbs out issue...

I got the cornering drls on my fabia.

When the lights are off the drls are lit all the time. When i turn the switch to turn on the main beam/light the drl only lits up below 40km/h at the direction im turning OR if i manually pull the switch to turn the front drls on. If im indicating or not doesn't matter.

They come on when you turn the steering nothing to do with the indicators

Snowman89,

I take it that this is not on a vRS.

Is it on a Monte Carlo?

its just a regular fabia elegance specced.

Is there a switch for DRLs? Not the switch to turn on the fog lights? Or is this different between Montes and Elegance?

Recently, with the addition of freezing fog into the equation, dipped beam is almost too much, but sides and front fogs not quite enough.

As I understood it on the Monte (but would need to check myself), I start the car - DRLs only. Switch to side lights and the DRLs extinguish, side lights in the main headlight pod come on. Switch to dipped beam, the dipped beam is added. Pull the light selector and fogs come on (front then rear). No DRLs if the dipped beam is on.

Am I right? Is the Elegance set up as per the VRS (no front fogs, just the DRLs, single aperture), or as per my Monte (BIG aperture, DRL next to fogs, all standard bulbs, not an LED in sight)?
