Hot hatch suggestions

They saw it on here 1st then pistonheads. To be honest ive had more interest on here than anywhere else. Over 10 days i had 19 watchers on ebay with not one email, on pistonheads only one offer without even viewing it, so its worth paying for freedom membership.

  • All nice cars but need to be under £8k

  • Pulsar gti r?

  • There was the Alfa 147 GTA...but reliability is a bit patchy. The C30 is a good shout, although there is no boot really and the back is a bit tight. There isn't a lot of choice when it comes to thin

That's a shame !!!

You'd get a decent s60r for £8k. Good spec, big enough for the family and 300bhp standard. Not a hatch but I'd say worth a look. Not tha I'm biased or anything

A lot of car for the money but i wouldnt fancy putting the fuel in! Plus im not sure it would get onto my drive

They aren't that much worse than a mkI octavia vRS. I get 22 is around town. 35 plus on motorways.

The s60r is amazing...but when the 4c chassis breaks...thats expensive. Each shock absorber is 1k...

I bought 2, direct from the manufacturer for under £400. They might be that much from Volvo.

Focus ST.. End of.

Under budget, 5 doors, reasonable boot, Nice and refined, extremly fun, economical on a run (a collegue used to commute 120miles per day in his and saw an average of around 38mpg crusing at motorway speeds)

IMO they are the best Hot Hatch out there, that will also double up as a nice car for tootling around with the kids in and not grow tiresome with rediculously hard suspension and needing to rev it to the red line to make steady progress.

If in doubt do a search on you tube for when Clarkson did a review in the Asbo Orange one, Awesome cars

This would get murdered by a Renault Sport Megane It even beat the RS Focus in most magazine tests from a pure performance standpoint. Admittedly the ST would be a lot more refined and reliable. I think the OP wants a smile from ear to ear and the R26 will certainly deliver for a limited time until all the lights come up on the dash and it goes into limp mode. :giggle:

Having looked around a little more I did find another Focus ST in black, similar age/milage but more than £500 cheaper and the ST-2 model so better spec than the one above.

Sadly when children come along some things in life need some sacrifice and I for one would get fed up of the rawness of the Sport Megane where-as the Focus ST can offer similar fun (when needed) and sensible the rest of the time. (maybe I'm just getting old , should be able to start my mid life crisis soon :giggle: ) but I agree as a pure drivers car the Megane Sport would be hard to beat for the money

If it want for the poor fuel economy of the focus i probably would have gone for one, but i know they only aveage 25 mpg and the tyres are expensive and last about 7k miles. Where as the megane averages 30 mpg and the tyres arent too much. Also the R26 has a lsd as standard aswell as other trickery. At the minute ive got a 3 year old daughter and use of my mrs's car so the megane will be purely for fun as ive just gone 30 and never really had such a hardcore car, give me a couple of years and ill probably be in a 'daddy waggon' with another kid on the way! Thanks for everyone input, ive researched for the past 3 months and and weighed up the pro's and cons for each car and i think the megane is the car for me (at the moment). Pictures will follow as soon as i pick one as im rathe fussy. :)

Focus st is a dog

Worst car ive ever owned

A pillar view is rubbish

Fuel is rubbish

Performance is mediocre

Turning circle is beyond aweful

Feel more like a barge than a hot hatch

Needless to say my st ownership only lasted 4 weeks!

And if you buy a renault you'll never be away from the garage!

Stick with vag and a mk 5 golf gti

Yeah but the performance of all the renault hot hatches more than makes up for spending a day evey couple of months being plugged into the big renault computer to tell you somethings broken again. Its a bit like owning a white boxer dog, it will most likely be deaf, stupid and cost you a fortune in vet bills but will be the best dog you ever have :giggle: . I have had 7 renaultsports of varying types and a white boxer dog if anyone is wondering where that analagy came from. Im middle aged married dad of two now which is why i have the two skoda's however if i was single again with no kids i would be back on the renault sports in a flash starting with the mental R26, megane 250 or possibly the cliosport if theres a decent turbo version.

Nice! Is that the full RS Cup or just the rims added??

It does make you smile!! Its the R26 so you get upgraded cup chassis with upgraded suspension, LSD plus a few extra upgrades like 230bhp. Its a different car to the RS225. The car is completley standard
