Im a member on vxr online (have been for ages) and theres mixed comments about that. Some say they have issues, some say they havent. If we break it down all cars have issues on something. Im keeping an open mind as i really cant find anything. The renaultsport megane's are quite cheap, wouldnt mind the F1 edition! Until my car sells im going to keep looking and listening to peoples opinions, and ill have a few test drives.

I dont want a civic, a kid down the road has a 57 plate one, so i dont want to be seen as a 'copy cat' plus i dont want to have to rev all the time to make it go

Off vtec they are still quicker than any other car in its class.

205 GTi, mk 2 golf..... If you want something modern they usually warm at best due to the weight.

Of course they are mate ;)

Still if you thought a Fabia vRS was a hot hatch, I can see why you'd believe that.

, its 2 miles to work and 2 miles back!

how about one of these?

Or how about a Mazda RX8? The PZ special edition was especially awesome. I drove one round a track in Scotland and it put a massive grin on me face.

Practical too - I'm about 6.3 and could set the front seat so I fitted in, and still managed to fit in the back behind.

Dirt cheap as well now, so lots of savings to spend on fuel or mods. ;)

I considerd a push bike or motorbike, but on mornings like these (hard frost and freezing) id have no motivation to go to work lol. Rx8, lovely looking car but so many issues.

His let go at 13k miles, on a stock car

My old astra 1.9 cdti let go at 40k. Lucky I was able to get box reconditioned all in it cost me £600.

M32 gearbox in astra 1.9cdti 150bhp and vxr are both on maximum limit which is 320nm. So as standard the gearbox is on limits.

However go for a vecta 1.9cdti 150bhp and you would be fine as it has a different gearbox I believe F40 and it's much stronger.

Already had a vectra and the vxr is in the highest tax bracket. Its hard to know what to do, people i know only have praise, yet one here theyre getting slated. The furbys are notorious for weak turbos, but people still buy them and many have no trouble. My only other option is to go for a more luxurious car

They slate them but have never owned one!!!

It's a skoda site, they are gonna slate vauxhall because they think they are superior!

How that works I don't know!

I've had 4 1.9 cdti 150 engines( 3 vectras, 1 Astra ) and a 59 plate Octy vRS, so I think that I'm in a better position to pass comment than most on here.

The Vectra is a good all rounder, cheap to buy, run and maintain.loads of space and if chipped VERY quick!

It's quite quick standard as well to be honest.

That's my thoughts anyhow.

You'll find I wasn't Slating them off, just making the OP aware of potential issues with a car he was considering buying (which he was Already aware of) to notify him of possible repair bills or things to look out for on a test drive etc

Hopefully aiding him to make a decision which is the whole point of this thread.

Still wouldn't own one tho ;) especially not a vectra ;)

My car is now up for sale, think ive decided on a renaultsport megane R26. Found a few i like the look of but until i sell mine i dont want to waste there time

I've got a diesel Exeo, but am going looking at a 2.0Tsi sport. 200bhp 0-60 in 7.3 and easily remapped to to 230bhp. Should get a 10 plate for less than 10 grand.

And btw I'm an old fart now so can't have hot hatch. But the Megane is a good choice, like **** off a red hot shovel.

Which do you have? the 140 mapped? or the quicker one? (180 is it?). Looked at a few Exeo`s on auto trader, huge amount of car for the cash.

The diesels are 120, 143 and 170bhp. I've got a 143 S which I've remapped to 181bhp and 289lb/ft. The 170 has bigger brakes and a different suspension set up I think. tbh I can't believe more people aren't buying them, they are just so cheap and expect a chunk off the screen price. 9 grand will put you in a 10 plate 2.0tdi 143 estate. I paid less than 50% of list price at 12 months old with 2,800 miles on it.
