  • there is no "cornering fogs" on maxidot, even if enabled. its purely a vcds thing. CH/LH on maxidot = yes. i've got my CH/LH using the fogs, not the low beams (by default). on a my11 vrs.......

  • 2) Some dealers struggle to activate them using their diagnostics system, I don't think theirs is as comprehensive as VCDS. Good luck!

Whats MY13? sorry for ignorance!

ModelYear 2013

I didnt realise conering fogs could be activated on my 2008vrs,thats a job for the new year then, anybody in the york area with vcds fancy setting them up for me for some beer tokens?? ;)

Hi all

I am due to pick up a 2010 60 plate vrs just after Xmas, this car does not have maxidot, from what i am reading am i correct in saying that coming home and leaving home lights can be activated through vcds on this vehicle.

Does it have auto/tunnel lights?

Hi silver1011

No the car doesn't have auto lights/tunnel lights

I think it can be activated using VCDS but without the sensor the car won't know if its dark or not, which results in the feature operating during the day.

I may even remember a thread where it was discussed that the options on the later facelift Octavia's were more limited and that the only way it would work was if you flick the main beam stalk as you exit the car.

Ok...so if I can find someone with vcds then it's worth a try...thanks for your help..

Forgive me if this has been covered before, however, I've got "Automatically Dimming Rear View Mirror with Rain Sensor", "Front Fog Lights" and "Maxi-dot Trip Computer" fitted.

What I do not have are "Xenon headlights".

I have had the "Daytime Running Lights" activated using VCDS. (These being housed in the Fog Light unit using the dedicated DRL bulb).

Q1) Would it be possible to activate the "Light Assistance (Coming home, leaving home and tunnel light)" function via VCDS and enable/disable via Maxi-dot?

Q2) Would it be possible to activate the "Cornering Function" on the Fog Lights via VCDS and enable/disable via Maxi-dot?

Q3) What effect, if any, would either of these have on the DRL function which is already activated?

Car is MY2011.

1) Do you have auto/tunnel lights, i.e does your car know when it is dark? If not I think post #36 applies.

2) Yes and no. Even with them activated and using Maxidot I think the cornering fogs can only be turned on/off with VCDS.

3) None, cornering fogs only operate when dipped headlights are on, which on your Octavia means the DRL's are off.

1) No. I seem to recall that you'd need to install wire somewhere, fit a switch box and then input a line of code to enable the light sensor to work. Way beyond my level of competence.

2) I'll ask my dealer if they'll do that next time I'm in.

3) Doh!

Cheers!

If you have puddle lights, you already have a light sensor. No puddle lights, no sensor. Fitting the replacement switch is just push, twist, pull, unplug old switch, insert extra wire (and push through switch hole, plugin new switch, push. (Takes that long to do that bit)

VCDS coding takes less time to do than it does to write ;)

I found the hardest part was getting the wire into the control module, but here "hardest" would relative to the rest of the job. Probably no more than 20 mins, including making a self-congratulatory cup of tea ;)

can it be done on a 57 plate standard vrs? and is there any 1 near telford that could do it? many thanks

As above but on a 56 plate VRS?

I activated the cornering fogs on SWMBO's now long gone vRS, it was one of the first MY08 cars on an 07 plate.

Same deal with my previous L&K, that was an early MY08 too.

I believe that was when the AUX socket in the maxidot appeared as well.

I recall the funny looks and the 'mate, you've got a bulb out' comments when using cornering foglights back in 2007 :giggle:

Nothing has changed 5 years later.

You can even try and explain it to some people and they still don't understand :giggle:

Come to think of it, you are right. Even though they more commonplace you still get the odd good Samaritan informing you of a foglight failure or a 'wiring fault' :wall:

Noticed that the Seat Leon uses the exact same foglights as the Octavia vRS and Scout.

Seat illustrate the extra illumination offered by this function here:

I've an early 2007 car and that can't do it. So suspect that mid/late 2007 onwards probably could.

Activated cornering fogs on my June 2007, but deactivated a couple of days later

Can someone remind me how I switch on the coming home and leaving lights please?

Would cornering fogs be possible on a 2007 pre face lift elegance do you reckon?

Or would it be try it and see.

If there is the Rain sensor does it require the auto switch for coming/leaving home lights to work properly?

I've been trying to get it working on my car (MY07 4x4, so basically Elegance spec) which doesn't have auto lights, doesn't work at the moment but I need to recheck everything with VCDS. Next step will be to nick the switch with auto lights from my dad's Audi A3 and see if that helps.

Mines a 2007 elegance and CH and cornering fogs work

And I don't have auto lights
