Some of you may have read some of my recent posts about recent problems encountered following coil pack failure on my old Octavia RS.

The coil packs were replaced but within a couple of days, all boost was lost, and we feared that the cat had been damaged due to unburnt fuel in the exhaust.

It turned out that the boost problem was apparently an unrelated issue, which has baffled both the dealer & me. Upon inspection, the lack of boost was due to the turbo charger having become loose! Apparenty, there are three bolts that secure the turbo. One bolt had fallen out, one was very loose, and the third was still reasonably secure, but this was enough to blow the gasket. The car has always been left to the local Skoda dealer to service & repair, and they have never had any cause to move or even go near the turbo, so it would appear to have come loose of its own accord. When the coil pack failed, the engine was rocking in the engine bay at idle quite violently, and may have accelerated the loosening of the bolts.

Seeing as this is an un-usual occurence, I thought I would post it here in case others have similar problems.

dam u beat me to it! i felt real clever for only on second! :(

It's sounded a bit nuts to me, but I was assured by the mechanic that it was definately a bolt problem

Pretty common that. Happens alot on SEAT Ibiza Cupra's. TT's used to come loose which creates a hotspot where the blow is, this would if unrepaired eventually cause the manifold to crack.

Nope. The turbo coming loose didn't have anything to do with the coil pack failure. The engine rocking before the coil packs were replaced only accelerated the already loose bolts. Total cost

It's my old one.... 02 model. Fair play, they did replace all 4 coil packs foc
