One up, one down

Featured Replies

I have a 2011 Fabia 2 and the main headlights have a problem. When I park in front of my garage door and the main lights are on (not full beam), I can see that one light sits slightly higher than the other light on the garage door. Can somebody tell me how to adjust the headlights to get them in line. I know how to adjust the main beam ok with an allen key but when I put the allen key in the lower adjustment nut, the main light seems to adjust side to side, not up and down :wall: Thanks

Easy peasy , pop bonnet then on the top of the headlight unit you have a grey / green hex head screw, get a alloy key and turn it you will see beam lower and elevate as you turn it

is it the near (kerb) side that appears slightly higher? I thought that was how they are meant to be, so as to illuminate to the left and a little higher, the O/S should be aimed slightly lower and more spread out. Had mine aligned perfectly a few months back and that seems to be how mine are.

thanks ljp01 it is the near side one that's higher by about 1 inch, not much but I'm a bit of a perfectionist .The main beam ones are easy to adjust up or down using the creamy, green coloured hex nut near the top of the light unit. how much did it cost to get the lights set and where would you go to get it done..

Actually, it was at Kwik Fit, I know, but before you say urgh Kwik Krap, it was £11, and I had a £10 voucher after I complained about their service the last time I was in there, so with the voucher it was one whole pound! Not used them since though  Most garages will align them for a small fee, just ring around is my advice :)

Well actually seboni121, the hex bolts at the top of the light unit is for the adjustment of the main beam not the dipped beam and it is it a dipped beam adjustment that I was inquiring about. you

First of all, both headlights are supposed to aim at exactly the same height. If one is aiming higher or lower, whether it's nearside or offside, then you will have either one headlight blinding oncoming traffic or one headlight which is too low and making your view ahead worse and your life difficult.

Both the lenses for dipped and high beam are actually one body and move together with the adjuster, so unless something is broken, it should have been easily fixed with one of the two hex bolts (can't remember which of the two hex bolts is for up and down and which for left and right).

My car's headlights are both aiming at exactly the same height and I haven't touched them since I bought it new. Also, I remember reading about it in the service manual, so no doubt about it, both should be the same.

Hope this helps...

thanks fab59 that makes things more simple.

You're very welcome O.C.D.

And sorry ljp01, but you should NEVER EVER trust your car to kwikfit. And that goes for everyone! Kwikfit are clueless!!!
