Sidelights and Full Beam to match new HIDs

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

With thanks to Gizmo68, I now have brilliant H7r HIDs on the Fabia, however, the Main Beam H3s and sidelight 501s are very yellow by comparison so wanted to ask what you have replaced hem with for a better, brighter output??

Also looking to change interior lights for LEDs so any links to all of these would be appreciated as I know some you can buy barely last 5 minutes so I am keen to know about tried and tested alternatives!

Many thanks!

vrsrs

I'm using some white LED side lights which look like the HIDs kind of.

As for main beam in using some of those MTEC bulbs, they do look white but when you stand outside and look they still look yellow next to the HIDs, I just concluded that the only way to do it would be another set of HIDs in there.

If you get the bulbs from the HIDs direct website then get the higher wattage ones. The output isn't brilliant though :/

OK, thanks!

The sidelights and interior map reading lights are the same right? What about the main light, the long one?

Yes mate all H3 bulbs are like that. Check the K rating on them bulbs. Mine are the cosmos blue which is rated at 4,750 K.

They are 4350k...

Balls I knew it was one or the other, I went for the highest K so it would match my 6K HIDs.

I don't think those 501 bulbs would fit in the interior light tbh mate, I'd look at another type of those. And the long one is around 42mm festoon type, but best to measure it.

Dipped headlights (normal driving) are indeed H7 which I have upgraded to H7R HIDs (just the same as xenons but much cheaper).

Main beam (when you flash etc) are H3 - mine are standard and look reeeaaaallllyyy yellow compared to the the awesome white dipped so I am looking to change the main beam and sidelights to a whiter light.

So glad I didn't buy the set of h7 bulbs for my main beam then! They are h7 on proper xenons...

why dont you buy the H3 HID kit? then they will match your others :)

My HIDs are 6K, the MTEC cosmos blue bulbs I bought are 4,750K, they were the highest K bulbs I could find.

Xenons aren't the best for flashing - warm up times etc.

My bi-xenon BMW uses the halogens for flashing people for that reason.

Are LED lights progressing enough to make them worth considering? Could easily get the colour temp right, just not sure about the brightness!

Dont use HID's for the high beam, the time the bulb takes to warm up and for the igniters to get up to power to turn them on is quiet a long time. For this reason as already pointed out, even cars that have BI-Xenon have a standard bulb for headlight flashing.

My Audi has Bi-Xenon and moves a shutter inside the lens to get main beam without having to power up a separate bulb, so I have xenon dipped and main. However for flashing purposes it has a standard halogen bulb in the lamp housing.

Xenons will also be killed very quickly, due to the fact they do not like being constantly switched on /off.

What Triggerfish and Mannyo said!

HIDs will not do the job.

Triggerfish - LEDs are the ones I was considering for the sidelights and interior lights...

Thinking http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270780645896 for the main beam and http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220414673478 for sidelights...
