According to this link, Subaru are no longer going to make the Impreza. :o

Dwindling sales and high emissions the cause apparently, however I cant help but think they brought it on themselves making it a hatchback and not entering rallying.

It's sad times were are in now. :'(

Never liked the hatchback at all.

Never liked the hatchback at all.

Me neither, but really liked the latest Saloon. I`m sure old skool scooby owners will slate it but I liked it lol.

I love the current saloon. Seen a few around here, and a white one being driven around the local dealers earlier today - looked awesome in white.

Is a shame, but I can't say I've seen masses of the new ones on the road.

I completely agree :-)

Thought it never looked right as a hatch always prefer the saloon

I like that, is it an Impreza? I was looking at Subarus when I was S3

shopping but couldn't get on with the interior. Also I can fairly easily tune the S3

up to well over 300bhp and as a debadged sleeper I doubt I'd get as many chancers

at the lights as I would in a car with an ironing board nailed to the bootlid.

Besides, aren't they limited to 155mph the same as my car is? Okay, it may get

there quicker but what's the difference really in the real world? Maybe on a trackday

the Scooby would be more fun but with my previous history I don't want a car that is

a flashing beacon to any passing rozzers. I was a bit of a sod in my youth and it's

mentioned every time I have my credentials checked by the boys in blue.

(PS, my sister is a police Sargeant so I'm not anti old bill in any way, just a

naughty boy when I was young...)

Yeah heres a Evo review: http://www.evo.co.uk...sti_review.html

For what its worth, as much as I like the Subaru I`d rather your S3 as a daily any day. I reckon the Scooby would be more fun on a track but on the road with a mix of fun & cruising the S3 would be the better all rounder, looks classy too, bit more understated. I`d not feel a **** turning up to a meeting in it if you know what I mean. A simple remap and you`ll but up to the Subaru`s power anyway wouldnt you?

That is obviously based on driving neither as no one is stupid enough to let me take one out lol.

I loved my Turbo 2000 Scooby (in WRC blue) back when I was 25. It was an R plate a few years old.

Then they brought out the bug eye a few years later... :( .. so I replaced it with something else.

The Hawk Eye model to me was a step in the right direction... but then they pulled out of rallying.

I never understood that as it's what Subaru were all about, it's where all their street cred came from IMO.

The newer car is nice enough as a car, but to me it's got no soul and it's got no pedigree, not helped by being available only as a hatchback for many years and a lack of any sport association.

I was a big fan, but IMO they lost their way.

My indy is on at me to let him tune it to stage 2+ lol

He's just done his ED30 and it's a total weapon!!

Maybe next year... Still making it look a bit different than standard at the mo.

Tbh it was only a matter of time, the emissions regulations are killing loads of good cars off rx8, scooby evo, CTR etc....

Think of how many epic cars there were in the 90s that woul never have got made under todays rules..... Skyline, supra, rx7, silvias, 3000gt, celica gt4, glanza etc........

I think the days of mental cars are now over the only half mental thing i can think of now is the focus rs an its just "mehhhhh"

I remember reading in Evo that they had lopped £6k off the list price which shows that either they desperately wanted more sales or they were asking too much money in the first place...

The successor to the Skyline is still made, it's still pretty mental...

I'm not sure it's the emission regs, it's just that 20 years ago they didn't need to make the engines so clean, so the tech was not developed

Awww aye forgot about the gtr....although the skyline was probably more affordable than the gtr

All the technology used to make the engine cleaner makes them too expensive and they then price themselves out the game.....i.e the scooby and evo

Well that and the rising running costs of these cars with the fuel, tax and insurance increases making them very unaffordable to own and run daily

I believe there are brand new focus RSs unregistered that will have to be scrapped because of new emission regs. Loved that 5 cylinder. Nothing sounds like it

I'm fairly sure they'll find owners for them!

Scrap, hmm, not so sure on that one!

Had an import when I was 21. Tuned to 300 odd. Loved it, but insurance and fuel costs it didn't last long. Loved the noise it made, straight through exhaust.

I don't think we'll ever see such times of wrc etc again. Could always get an mg that Plato drives.

I like Scooby's - particularly the early ones and I've always said I would own one but the latest hatchback ones are horrid. I only found out that they made the saloon version (which is better, but still not great) when I read the same article in Evo as PastyBoy - so a lack of advertising didn't help either.

All in all though a very sad day ... when will we hear that flat four warble again?

Awww aye forgot about the gtr....although the skyline was probably more affordable than the gtr

Although a lot were imported, when the Skyline R34 GT-R was sold in the UK back in around 2000 it cost £55,000. :peek:

Compared to that the 2009 GT-R at £53k and the 2010 model at £60 were bargains! :D

Just a shame they keep putting the price up when they tweak it, now £75k!

It's a good job hot hatchbacks have got more and more powerful, or fast cars for sensible money would be rare.

Focus RS, Astra VXR etc... all have more bhp than my Turbo 2000 (1998) Scooby used to have!

Love the Impreza, had a 22b which was an incredible car for its time and the only car I ever made money on such was its desirability and the fact a football wanted it! Later had an RB5 which was superb and proved to be very practicle and easy to live with; 4 doors, large boot, 4 wheel drive and fast.

Would like the Cosworth one now.

The 22b is the best Scooby built and if I had to pick a car to race round a twist track for my life it would be a 22b.

Definitely a sad day for affordable performance motoring, the Impreza is probably the only car in the world that is instantly recognisable by It's engine note alone, and what a "note".

They should IMO, bring back the homologation rules we saw in the Grp A and early WRC days, i.e. cars that closely resemble the road going versions bodywork wise and still use the same block/drivetrain (admittedly beefed up a fair amount).

Manufacturers would have no problem selling them because a lot of us would want a road car with motorsport pedigree, and fans would love it because they could see the motorsport version of their/friends/family car being rung out in style by some of the best drivers in the world.

FWIW, my personal choice, if I had to own 1 Impreza, would be the JDM version 2 STI v-limited.post-97500-0-13240400-1355693263_thumb.jpg

I worked briefly for a Subaru dealer in 2006. I had great fun driving a variety of models. For stealthness the Forester 2.5XT was hard to beat. 4x4 with impreza power. My favorite was a Silver 04 Impreza STI. The boss had an imported STI and I drove it once and didnt like it. The suspension was harder and there was more power than UK spec cars and IIRC a different turbo. It made it in my opinion harder to drive. When I gave it back he asked what I thought and I told him never again.

My best mate bought a brand new hatch sti in 2008. He had it under a year and it had no soul unlike the previous versions.

A sad day but I'm not surprised.

Reading the article in the first post, it suggests that the Impreza will no longer be sold in the UK only. All that means is that International Motors will not be importing it anymore. The Impreza will still be available in other countries, and Japan so there is nothing to stop you importing one from elsewhere yourself.

I never got Subaru. Sure they were fast and I did like the look of the earlier ones but I've never wanted ones. I did like the Evo more but again it's a car I could never justify buying when there's so much choice out there, in the real world just as quick and cheaper to run.
