If you have a Twin Charger that uses no oil, be that 5w 30 or 5w 40 it makes no difference,

it will still use no oil.

Same with an Oil User,

using up 5w30 or 5w 40,

best just get Skoda/VAG to sort it out before the warranty is up.

They must know which series of engines have which components & which have problems.

They know what they need to fix them.

They have been doing it since 2010.

Supplying the required parts etc, where the work gets done at a Skoda Dealership Workshop.

It's perfectly believable that a slightly heavier grade will reduce consumption due to reduced blow-by. However, I'd also tend to agree that there shouldn't be a need to do so. It used to be a common trick with old engines with bore/ring wear.

For anyone interested home bargains are doing 1litre castrol edge 5w40 for £6.99

Some cars just use oil anyway. Friend of mine had a E39 BMW 520 (2.2 6cyl 170bhp) that would always use some oil and was perfectly normal
