  • Think i will stick with my two Fabia Diesels, one a 1.9tdi and the other a 1.6tdi, the 1.9 is checked from year to year and uses zero oil, the 1.6 (up to now) seems to be the same, using no oil at all

  • We all have our points of view? It's a forum get a fekin life! It's my opinion no one else's and most know it! , however being derogatory isn't going to help?, breath in and out and relax , take a chi

Well changing the avatar signature will bring you one step closer to reconciliation with yourself for not getting that vRS when you wanted to. Who knows, one day you may even look back at all those posts and realise the silliness in them. However, not much can be done I'm afraid for that terrible sense of... humour (?).

Plus, this thread isn't a day old and I already received a PM of sympathy saying "well said"? Go figure...

Only advice I would suggest Seb is that if you've got nothing useful to add then don't say anything. There's no call for constantly trying to put the fear of God into anyone who owns a vRS especially when all your knowledge isn't first hand. I normally only post if I think I've got something useful to add. Scaremongering isn't useful.

That's right. If for example I go and ask a technical question in a computer forum, I'd like that people who have first hand experience answer my question. Not the ones that have "heard stories" but actually know nothing about my problem. Simple as that. Especially if their response implies that I am in serious danger or so. In a similar way I don't go and post crap for example in the TDI forum saying what I've only heard about "DPF problems" or whatever that may be because I'll eventually sound like a clown. Obviously some people don't care about it.

sorry guys but this is a forum and if anyone wants to post crap then so be it, nobody owns anything here and so long as its not personal then why care?

some people do things for a reaction, hmm, some people do things coz they want to, double hmm and others just do it coz they can, triple hmm, i say let folk do what they want

when you read his post he's only saying whats been said by others and prolly thought by many, inc ME and i do OWN one of these cars

if you dont like what anyone posts then just dont continue to read, jeez i think some people need a pinch of salt with that internet

Why isn't this clown banned?

I would never dream of signing up to a forum just to tell people their cars are crap - nor would I expect it to be tolerated.

He didn't. He's been here a while.

Personally, what I like about Briskoda is that people are allowed to not like things: some forums actively ban people for disagreeing, and I don't want to see anyone banned for expressing an opinion, unless it breaks rules. A forum that does that isn't worth my time or bandwidth.

Personally, I wouldn't want a car using a lot of oil, but it depends on your definition of 'a lot' , and I'd guess all the Fabia II vRS member's cars are within spec on oil use, and they like their cars?

If so, hell just check it regularly, and get out and drive it :)

seb you do know i said a PINCH tut tut

No problem with a difference of opinion - Seboni comes on here singing the same old song. It's clear his sole intention is to bait people.

Oh bphrian you can't ban anyone for having a point of view can you? Although it may be wrong it a pont of view yes? I've never said the vrs was crap, its amazing ive driven it and its awesome and I'd love to have one but and there's always a but! It's well documented by many here there are issues with oil usage, no not all but enough for it to be flagged up here and elsewhere not just the ones planted in the front of the fabia, I could go out tomorrow and buy one as a Sunday car but the wife would kill me everytime I asked for pocket money for the oil, when the newer combination comes round (1.6 turbo) I may purchase, no doubt however that it will not be as thrilling as the 1.4 tsi unit , you see when you go fishing and you catch a tiddler you smile

Oh and Brian just ignore me mate most do, even the wife doesn't bother anymore

have you thought about swapping the wife seb? or even part ex her?

go on, its a good car :giggle:

I married her for her estate :) where else could I a home with 14 bedrooms on suite and 400 hectares ? I might give the new 1.6 a look at though, just a shame they never made the one with the fuel of satan lol

If this continues to go the way it is going, it'll get locked. Take a step back and calm down, if you've got nothing useful to contribute, then don't post.

Ok, can an Admin please lock this thread...my question is now resolved. Cheers!

I will share my latest oil story with you.

Took my vRS in for it's 2 year service at 16,500 miles, prior to a 350 mile motorway round trip.

Oil put in was Quantum 5W40, which I queried as oil recommended is Edge 5W30, service dept. said this was OK.

Motorway trip was at fast lane speeds and hard acceleration where possible.

Dipped the oil on return and it had not moved at all, right at the top.

Similar journeys had needed at least 1/2 litre.

Total oil consumption has been 6litres topped up over the above mileage, not a problem engine, but more than I am used to.

So maybe 5W40 is best for this engine?

Tony

Tony I'm sure this has been mentioned before regarding the 5w x 40 as its apparently thicker ?

I'd be pretty gutted if I'd bagged myself a sexy new ride only to get her back home and find her internal bits were dry when I lifted the hood and put my dipstick in.....

.

For me buying my vrs used (2010 year) the biggest worry was how attentive the previous owner had been to the oil level, and if and how long it had been driven without enough oil, or even too much oil. It's worth the risk tho as I love he car and in 3000 miles it's used a bit but not an excessive amount. The MINI before it used a similar amount.

I know of a MINI using a litre a week. I used to top it up for my manager. She never drove much or hard

.

just remember peeps, bad oil usage is the minority.... I will repeat, mine doesn't use a single drop... no top ups AT ALL..... bet alot of skodas on here with many varying different engines, many different models, petrol/deisel ect use "some" oil.....

as mine doesn't use a drop, does that mean my engine is better than all the others (non twincharger 1.4's) that use "some" ?! lol.....

Alpina had the same problem years ago with their 6 cylinder 3.2 litre engines.

They were built with minimum friction for the best power ,but some used a lot of oil.

As well as re-speccing their oil control piston rings they also changed the oil spec to 5-40 edge instead I think .

BMW even went as high as the 5-60 viscosity in their V8 M5.

I don't know if "Oilman" at Opie oils visits Briskoda ,but he was the source of all knowledge on the BMW Forums..

If you have a Twin Charger that uses no oil, be that 5w 30 or 5w 40 it makes no difference,

it will still use no oil.

Same with an Oil User,

using up 5w30 or 5w 40,

best just get Skoda/VAG to sort it out before the warranty is up.

http://www.kewengineering.co.uk/Auto_oils/oil_viscosity_explained.htm

They must know which series of engines have which components & which have problems.

They know what they need to fix them.

They have been doing it since 2010.

Supplying the required parts etc, where the work gets done at a Skoda Dealership Workshop.
