Newbie: Looking to buy L&K (DSG)

Featured Replies

Quite high mileage, but then a lot of Superb's are bought by "reps" and company car drivers these days, so high mileage is to be expected, however as a result it should have been well serviced. Just check its had its cambelt changed, as this should have been done at about 60k.

  • You could say that about any engine/gearbox in any car. The DSG is a fine gearbox, I have 530,000kms on mine and my car is remapped to 400nm of torque since it was two weeks old. Nothing would ever g

  • Too many anomalies with that car to even consider it. Its cheap for a reason. There are plenty of VRS's and L&K's out there, so no point risking it with this one.

Thks groundhog

No cambelt change! I think.

Only serviced at 20k , 40k thn 72k at skoda.

So its due a cambelt and 80k service (plus DSG oil /water pump/ brakes etc)?

How much for all tht (cambelt + major service)?

Real nice!

Feels smaller thn octavia!

Front parking sensor was beeping whn reversing?

(Judging by screen display)?!!

Hmmm...cambelt quite a bit thn.

Major service sounds ok.

Thks!

Er....MOT shows 2 advisories:

1. TPMS Lamp on

2. EMS Lamp on

It seems i can reset the TPMS lamp by pressing and holding the switch and wait for a BOING?

As for EMS Lamp - cant find any details on tht :-(

Big concern? Shud i walk away?

TPMS lamp suggests one of the tyres is flatter than the others. If this just requires the tyre to be pumped up then that's fine. Could EMS actually be ESP? That's the only other lamp I can think ok.

Ok

Have decided to jump ship again to Toyota.

I just cant decide!

Tht Superb was brill.

But at 75k with no warranty - major service/work require after purchase.

And tht EML advisory concerns me!

I might wait a couple more years before having another look.

Just want to thk everyone here for your help over the past weeks.

U guys been brilliant!

Hope to be back here in a couple of years time!

Toyota? Are you mad?! Not sure I could compare a Superb, or even an Octavia for that matter, to a Toyota. Even the "posher" Avensis models are nowhere near to the same feel of quality of a Superb.

If you're buying from a dealer then just get them to fix all lights, lamps and other concerning things before picking it up. Simples.

Lol

Yes gone mad :-)

Nah.

Superb from private dealer.

Couldnt squeeze anymore from him :-(

For the love of God, don't do it!!!

But i am an Atheist - lol

Its a totally different car.

I would hav to get use to driving like Miss Daisy.

Oh - did i say i m looking at the 2009 Toyota Auris Hybrid 1.8?

But its a Toyota.

Reliable trouble free and free road tax

Lower insurance

And free town driving on electric.

Motorway shud still be 70mpg.

Urban 50mpg.

Its future savings vs loss of fun factor.

Plus still 2years manufacturer warranty on 09 plate.

I worry octavia / superb will not b trouble free :-(

Tax £170

Insurance £600+

Fuel costs

No warranty etc etc :-(

Toyota hybrid system is not all its cracked up to be. Please do some research.

If not, best of luck trying to stop it!!

Stop it?

Internet seems to report no major problems.

Though prefer the diesel equivalent or GREEN-versions of petrol.

Battery no longer an issue as has 8yr warranty.

And new battery only £1000 ( compared with a few years ago it was said to cost £8000!!!!).

Just purely on the finance side i was hopying i save money on tax/insurance AND fuel since city driving completely free?

So over 6 years would have at least got 1/2 the asking price bak?

U think i shud buy a octavia / superb?

Injectors / DPF / satnav harddrives / twin boot not closing etc are rare ?

Good luck getting 70mpg on a motorway with a Toyota hybrid. You have a better chance of getting high mpg in town when the battery is used. Out on the open road its basically a 1.8 petrol car which is weighted down by big batteries which isn't exactly renowned for its economy. Sure lower tax and no congestion charging, but the government are looking on lowering the CO2 limit for £0 road tax in 2016 to 85g/km, so that only the latest hybrids will meet the new limits. And yeah, Toyota's they're really reliable - never once have I heard of a mass recall against Toyotas... oh hang on no that's not right is it? ;)

If you are looking at a longer warranty, then look at the more recent Kia's and Hyundai's. Good quality cars these days, with 5 or 7 year warranties. I'd still buy a Skoda though ;)

Lol

Thks mate - for ur honesty!

Battery can still drive wheels whilst petrol engine is running !

I think...

Oh indeed - the battery works for about 2 miles on its own, until you give it some beans, then it cuts out and the engine takes over. Unless its a plug-in hybrid, which they didn't do back in 2009, as they do more miles on battery alone. :)

Lol

U really hate the hybrid?

Now i beginning to wonder if i shud go bak to look for an Octavia / Superb!

I think it was "Fifth Gear" who done a feature on the Prieus and they could get no where near the claimed MPG figures.....................NO WHERE NEAR.

also,I have no doubt it will be very reliable but it will be very plasticky(japanese) and have absolutely no soul.

  • Author

Yep k.young!

European cars always better quality material and drive.

And japs most reliable and bland.

Hmmmm....i m at a loss now....

I like hybrids that work (Ampera, for example), but not the Toyota Prius and Auris attempt. You're better off spending the money on an efficient diesel these days. Looks at the Greenline Octy or Superb, or Bluemotion Golf and you'd get similar benefits as a hybrid.

  • Author

Ampera isnt tht a full electric vauxhall?

  • Author

Ok.

U win!

U and the Superb guys have convinced me bak to look out for a Skoda again.

But now i like the Superb more :-)

Ampera is hybrid - battery charged by a petrol motor.

Superb is a lovely car - glad to see you've seen sense ;)
