Ok

I know i should stay way from the blue vRS with no history and one stamp.

But got the MOT number and it shows this 2008 car passed its 1st MOT in 2009?!!!!!!!

Anyone know why?

  • You could say that about any engine/gearbox in any car. The DSG is a fine gearbox, I have 530,000kms on mine and my car is remapped to 400nm of torque since it was two weeks old. Nothing would ever g

I know.

I am struggling to find a dealer selling L&K or vRS 2007 onwards for upto £7000

Since now I decided to PX my current car,

rather than sell it then look for the Octavia :-(

I spoke to a friend and he says stay away from 2.0 TDI pre-2007 (due to injectors).

Your friend is mistaken. The injector issue is only a problem on the PD 170 vRS and didn't effect the PD 140 fitted to all other Octavias. But all the PD 170's were recalled to have the injector issue fixed so just look for the paperwork to show this has been done on any PD 170 you go and look at.

Ok Booke thks!

I just want to say thks for everyone s advice and help recently.

I am struggling to find a decent dealer sourced l&k / vRS.

Looking at the Golf GT TDI 170bhp seem to be cheaper..

I do prefer a Skoda but in the end its the price!

If u dont hear from. Thn i have jumped ship - sorry!

I got caught out by this, there is second section in the service book for "other" work, so if done seperate from a scheduled service it may be in there.

L&K are very rare compared to other specs, I was watching for around 2 years and they only come up 1 or 2 at a time.every other month or so. DSG even fewer.

Reply from garage selling the car (wot u think?):

Dunno wot i am doin - but looking at a Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSI DSG Elegance 2009 Estate for £10k new shape (or facelift).

Some nice features such as electric folding mirrors and full alloy wheel! :-)

Test driven a 62-plate Octavia vRS TDI with paddles at the dealers.

Very nice.

Quiet enough, auto a bit notchy - but in sports mode smooth enough.

Didnt really get used to the paddles - so thts off my DESIRABLE list - more of a nice to have list now.

Dealer saying current Octavia not produced any more?

New model to come?

Rapide looks nice - but only 1.2 TSI?

Right then, after looking at my option, I was hoping to go for a Golf GT TDI DSG with Paddle - due to my budget of £7k.

But after test-driven the 12-plate Octavia vRS TDI with paddle - I am not so keen on the paddle now.

But, I am not also not the keen on the new Octavia WITHOUT a spare wheel - and no RUN-FLATs and just a tyre inflator car! :-(

But, I had a Golf before, and not so keen on them, and I do really like to have a Skoda this time.

Even downgrading to an estate Fabia wasn't an option (either no DSG on the VRS or no Estate on the engines I like).

So, with a big HOLE in my bank account, I have increased my budget to £10k.

Now looking on the NEW market I could buy myself a brand new Octavia smallest engine - since no VAT sale is on.

But, I think I heart has been on a vRS TDI DSG all along.

£12k could bag myself a 2009/10 facelift(?) one from the dealers! :-)

But, my budget is £10k - and can possibly find one soon....with a little haggling.

So, may I ask...what is the main difference between the 2009/10 vRS TDI DSG (new curvy headlights) and the pre-2009 models?

And what is GOOD and BAD of the new model compared with the pre-2009?

Any injectors problems?

And DPF problems?

Any recalls?

Reading on WHICH? - the SKODA brand and the Octavia is just too good for value for money! :-)

The newer ones are Common rail instead of PD. Same power output but different characteristics.......more linear power delivery on the CR (some people don't like this and say the PD feels faster), CR is more refined.

There have been DPF issues, but the majority of people with DPF have no problems at all. No injector issues on the CR. CR has slightly better fuel economy figures and a lower CO output compared to the PD, so is marginally cheaper to run.

Again you'll have to test drive a CR and PD to see what you think.

Thks Booke.

I think i am sold on the CR after the test drive and the internet saying its more like petrol performance thn diesel - and yes some prefer PD due to the more obvious power kick!

And if i am paying just a tiny bit more for a newer look and newer technology (CR) thn i prefer the CR.

Have emailed out a few sellers asking for their lowest price already.

So fingers crossed - this time nx month! :-)

But now another dilemma?

That RACING BLUE hatchback?

Or a toned down BLACK or WHITE or GREY estate?

If you can't find a VRS and don't need the diesel engine, then the 1.8TSI would be worth a look. It was available as both pre and post FL, and a fair number of L&K's came with this engine. 0-62mph of around 8 secs and with reasonable mpg, and might be cheaper than the VRS. Elegance spec is also pretty good, so don't dismiss it out of hand.

Cheers groundhog.

Only the 1.4 TSI DSG i looked at since i thought it would be lower tax/insurance and higher mpg - for a petrol anyway.

Would a bigger engine 1.8 TSI DSG not increased cost in every angle (tax / insurance / mpg etc)?

  • Author

Just checked parkers ...

Interesting...only 5mpg less, 1band higher in tax but 6insurance grp lower thn vRS TDI...but 0-60 in 7.6sec!

Looking at vRS TSI its 7sec, but 12mpg less!

Yes - might be worthy a look!

Thks GroundHog! :-)

If you are considering a petrol then the 1.8TSI is certainly the one to go for.

Big miles for a 2009 car is the likely answer. How about

Has to be this colour for obvious reasons....but I'd rather there weren't too many about.

Cheers Paul.

The colour not matches my long grey hair.

And i have already discounted the petrol vRS as to expensive to run :-(
