  • You could say that about any engine/gearbox in any car. The DSG is a fine gearbox, I have 530,000kms on mine and my car is remapped to 400nm of torque since it was two weeks old. Nothing would ever g

  • Start it up from cold and open the drivers window so you can hear the engine clearly. With your foot on the brake, move the selector from P to R while listening carefully for any change of noise from

  • Too many anomalies with that car to even consider it. Its cheap for a reason. There are plenty of VRS's and L&K's out there, so no point risking it with this one.

Decent spec that red one, wasn't aware the elegance spec had leather (if my eyes don't deceive me). If so pretty much an l&k without xenons, and has a sunroof. Probably hard to keep that interior clean though.

Looking into the FOR SALE section.

Just learnt abt the WRC editions.

If it was an auto i wud have taken a look:

A little research and theres only 25 RHD!

But thy seem to change hands so quickly - why?

The first generation Octavia is not really on the same planet as the second generation, IMHO. Much older car, not really as nice a place to be in as the current (outgoing) generation.

I kno Perc.

But i am a very flexible guy.

Usually my heart rules my head - so to speak!

Well, no reply from the garage ref. tht blue vRS on autotrader.

Just email local dealer to see if thy have a vRS and L&K to test drive...

Also, I don't think the old shape Octavia vRS ever came in automatic.

Automatic gearboxes in reasonably priced hatchbacks weren't really making any sense until the DSG appeared in the mid 00's. You could of course get Golfs, Octavias and whatever with automatics before that, but it was usually a power-sapping 4 speed slushbox mated to one of the more humdrum engine options. A car you had to settle for if you couldn't operate a clutch pedal, etc.

I kno, Perc.

Driven autos 1/2 my lifetime :-)

At best a convenience in jams and tight spots.

Else wrong gear and higher running costs :-(

Just read this in other thread:

>>> ref TSI

No DMF and,

Something to consider in your calculations - the TSI has a chain driven cam not a cam belt. A 1.9TDI will need cam belt changes at 4 and 8 years old at around £300 a go.

>>>

REALLY? :0)

Yes, most engines these days have belt-driven camshafts and the belt needs to be replaced at a regular interval.

Chains have made a comeback in later years, and they are usually maintenance free... but you need to keep up with oil changes.

And the 2.0 TSI is not without it's occasional expensive problems either.

My order of choice is still:

1. 2.0 PD L&K

2. 2.0 PD DPF vRS

3. 1.4 TSI (unlikely - but will chk out)

Just some general Qs:

1. Why the name BRISKODA?

2. Is it quite international membership?

3. How u guys find the forum?

4. Any other good Skoda forums?

Speaking of the 1.4 and performance... I did my first red light GP in it today. :D We were neck and neck, but he lost about half a car length on me every time he changed gear. DSG wins.

And I found my way here because I couldnt find a good Skoda forum anywhere in Scandinavia.

Perc which country u from?

U race a 1.4 manual against your 1.4 DSG (paddle shift?)?

The other car was a mid 90's Accord.

And no, my car doesn't have paddle shift. I can shift manually with the lever of course, but what's the point? :) It's an automatic, it's supposed to be left to its own devices.

Cool

I had one of these in 2000

image_zpscfff8af9.jpg

The L&K standard specs changed over time, skoda seemed to go on a 3 month cycle changing something there was a big change around mid 07 when quite a few things got added as standard leaving satnav, front parkers sunroof as the main 3 options.

(I don't remeber exacly what got added when)

Electric seats are very rare as an option on Elegance and some L&K before they became standard.

There are the odd 1.9 good spec L&K we have the 1.9dsg in an elegance and it is fine performance, but then we came up from 70bhp in 306

The "problem" with Skoda, at least in Finland, is that it's a "reasonably priced" brand. People willing to spend on extras like electric seats (or L&K entirely, for that matter) is likely to just move up to an Audi even if they have to settle for a lower spec.

I do see more Octavias than Golfs with xenons though. That is a tell-tale sign of a specced-up car. :)

64k and only one service. I think you know the answer really.

Dont touch with a barge pole? LOL

Aw - the price....the mileage...

The more I look, the more I am amazed at the low prices if I look at a lower spec/power Octavia?!!!

very VERY tempting those prices for just over 3year old motors.

But still determined to get a fully loaded L&K (u guys were right, not every L&K has satnav :-( )

or a decent vRS :-)

Why there aren't any DECENT vRS at this price and mileage AND has PADDLE SHIFT?!!!

I wouldn't get too hung up on paddle shift. It's still the same gearbox and it can be manually shifted via the lever.

A little jerky when pulling away means the electronic clap need to be replace ,

Thks Perc - but i never like the auto stick manual gear change :-(

Thks Tony - wots CLAP?

I spoke to a friend and he says stay away from 2.0 TDI pre-2007 (due to injectors).

1.9 is safer (but 105bhp a little underpowered for me).

He says vRS is fine.
