best first mod for the vrs

Featured Replies

Collecting my vrs on saturday after selling my corsa vxr. Just wondering what you guys think is a must first mod and best places for stuff im in Dundee Scotland

Ive done a fair few mods on mine.

Im torn between the Anti Roll Bars or the big brake kit as to what is my best modification.

Awesome, another vrs in Dundee!

Everyone says the anti roll bars bring the handeling of the car up to scratch. My best mod so fars been the TMC box.

well in evo magazine the standard poloGTI beat the VXR to 60, 100 and the quarter mile ;)

BUT a tuning box or remap?

and as the above peple say ARB's :)

the brakes are a bit weak if you intend track days, bigger front discs/pads?

been looking at the tmc tuning boxes,iv always had my maps done on a rolling road etc.take it its just plug in and go?

APR have a dealer in Kirkcaldy whcih is pretty close to Dundee if you want a remap.

Yeah its plug and play. A remap will give you better results as its tuned to the car but the TMC is removable and cheaper so its a decent trade off I think.

YOu have any budget or preference for your first mods? What are you after achieving with the car. Fast road, scene lowering/alloys etc, trackdays?

exactly what I would say.... TMC connects to the cam timing, boost pressure, and intake temps, (takes about 5 mins with the correct tools to remove the boost pipes) a remap will give a better performance for sure, but will need the ECU removing and dismantling.....

#so as apman says, TMC cheaper and easier, as sy says, remap better, more complicated......

I'm just gonna add as I go.not after anything daft just to get over the 200bhp mark.defo gonn lower it on eibach springs, can't see past them myself and a rarb.have two prada spec 2's sitting for the front aswell.think ill go for the tmc tuning box and a intake of which I'm unsure??

someone RR'd a TMC and intake.... (ITG)

on setting 7, I know someone who runs it safely on 9 all the time... but this power is on 7...

edit: credit to vRS-powered...

If you fancy seeing what a remapped and lowered one is like il be more than happy to take you for a blast at somepoint (slight travel involved but if it helps you then i dont mind)

Is the anti roll bar an easy fit across the top of the bonnet?

My advice would be run it through the winter just as you collect it.

See that all is well and dandy for the first few thousand miles.

The Pot holes are getting bigger by the days.

See how it is before looking at doing any mods.

(Depending how the winter goes you might need to get another set of wheels with Cold Weather tyres on.)

If it is coming from 'Specialist Cars' Skoda, John Clark Group,

(or from anyplace else, but especially if from them)

Read the 'owners manual' and see how to check the oil level and then check at what level the car is put out to you from the garage.

Just to be sure where you are starting of from.

Check & set the tyre pressures yourself & then set the TPMS by pressing the button.

Fill up with Tesco Momentum 99 RON petrol or Shell V Power.

(Ask the salesman what petrol they put in before you collected the car.)

Not a recommendation just a link.

Have fun with it.

anti roll bar go under the car mate.

I think your on about a strut brace which sits at the top of the engine bay

Anti roll bar imo , the stock brakes are fine for the road

RARB imo, but believe lowering is also good. Stage 1 remap sharpens the car up nicely and definately gives it the grin factor.

A corsa vxr with a driver that knows how to drive the car will sit along side a fabia vrs. two of my friends have corsa vxr, one being the arctic edition and the arctic does pull away slightly at around 70/75, although rolling start my fabia battered the pair of them.

The two best mods that you will feel in EVERYDAY driving will be the Rear ARB and the remap i guess. You dont even have to drive quickly to notice the improvments.

The likes of springs and brakes you will notice when you push the car a bit harder.

Everything else you will notice when the car is at the limits, which considering driving safely on the roads isnt the best tbh, hence why i do trackdays becasue its the only safe way to speed.

, if you used your VXR much on the routes to Couper Angus, Blairgowrie, Glenshee, or Newtyle, Blairgowrie,

maybe by Michelin, Kellas, Lucky Slap to Letham,

just give the vRS a chance standard to see how much better it is than the VXR was, before changing things.

ARB & spring changes will make you suffer if you drive through Fintry or Douglas often.

The ARB wont make bumpy roads any worse. Thats dealt with by springs and dampers.

when I say "beat" it was against the clock on tenths ;) "sit alonside" is probably more accurate if you met on the road ;)

just posting as an easy read to the ARB for the OP, not as the correct fitment for his car.
