About 50 miles, EML came on again earlier, cleared it again.

EML code for the MAF ??

If so sounds like wiring at fault

EML code for the MAF ??

If so sounds like wiring at fault

It was a different code this time: P0171, the first time it was P0102.

+1 Maf was at fault too imo but now sounds like bad wires too. Google the fault code and try find the ross tech explanation, i cant just now, on my phone.

dont know if this helps

A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

  • The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty
Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
  • There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor
  • Possible cracked vacuum or PCV line/connection
  • Faulty or stuck open PCV valve
  • Failed or faulty oxygen sensor (bank 1, sensor 1)
  • Sticking/plugged or failed fuel injector
  • Low fuel pressure (possible plugged/dirty fuel filter!)
  • Exhaust leak between engine and first oxygen sensor

Fault code is a lean mixture on bank 1, if I unplug the MAF with the car running it doesn't cut out or anything, is that normal? I know I've got a split breather pipe somewhere as well as there's a slight oil leak.

Got an MOT in an hour, hopefully it passes.

MOT passed :).

  • 7 months later...

Does unplugging the maf sensor not stop the car working. I have problems similar and may in plug to see if that cures it?

Nah it's fine, the ecu refers to preset numbers to run off, or something like that !!

Unplug it and see what happens,
