Coding Columbus to a retrofit Maxidot

Hi lads hope you can help. I retrofitted a maxidot unit when i got my 2008 Octy vrs tdi which was fitted and coded at my local dealer. I since bought a columbus unit and have it fitted a while but have never coded it correctly to communicate with the Maxidot. Has anyone done this coding themselves and care to share what exactly they did (I have access to VCDS which is telling me that the headunit isnt coded correctly ). Thanks in advance

Untucked the BAP Protocol box in either Radio or Navigation.

Can't remember exactly where it is (which byte) but its at the bottom of the window.

Also check to see if any other modules that should / shouldn't be there are correctly ticked.

Another suggestion is to 'change' the short coding manually to what it already is and then save it. Think of it being a 'refresh'. So if its '00006' enter '00006' in the short code box and save it. Don't make any other changes.

The fault code on the immobiliser suggests that this is defective! Was it a brand new retro fit or a used retro fit?

Try looking at this in Radio or in Navigation:

When found in Radio OR Radio Navigation System, check Measuring Value Block (MVB) 025.1 for Details.

Measuring Value Block 025.1 (MVB) may not be supported by all Radios OR Radio Navigation Systems.

The wiper switch fault is probably the interval switch on top if the stalk that is dirty. This function can be checked in the measuring blocks with VCDS.

It can be taken apart and cleaned (there are tutorials with pictures for cleaning the cruise control switch, which I guess would be similar).

If not, 'styler' on this forum might still have his wiper stalk for sale as he retro fitted a MFSW and no longer needed to rocker switch on the end if the stalk.

The immobiliser code is there since the retrofit. It was a brand new unit from skodateile and was fitted and coded by a main dealer.

The wiper stalk is on my to do list along with installing an updatable canbus gateway.

I re-entered the code like you said and it now works. Thanks a million for your help im so grateful . Its still throwing up a fault code but at least its functioning

The radio antenna fault will always be present on a pre facelift car, nothing you can do about that. I guess you don't have an aux input in the car, so you'll need to disable that with VCDS. The other one says intermittent, so clearing it might be enough.

The aux in is working fine this is a new fault that has just appeared since i got the navigation to work with the maxidot. I know ill always have the aerial fault code

As mannyo says, clear the fault codes on a module by module basis (not the single 'Clear DTC's' button on the auto scan page).

Run the car for a few days and see what faults come back.

The immobiliser fault is due to a checksum error, is common on retrofitted clusters. doesn't mean there is anything wrong just that the original eeprom has been written over

Is there anyway around this error? My dealer said that I have the same error regarding the immobiliser, but the car starts and runs just fine.

Thanks for the reply Mike! Sure, It doesn't bother me as long as it's not causing any problems. Just thinking that would it pop up in the MOT inspection? During the inspection we have to have our cars obd tested where they read the fault memory. I don't know what they read as they have their own equipment. For instance, had an malfunction bypass valve which left an error code, but they didn't say anything about it.

I'll borrow this thread again. I have another issues and I was wondering if there's a fix for it. So, I have a 2007 pre-fl Octavia RS and I have retrofitted Columbus and Maxidot. I don't have Multifunction steering wheel. Part number for the columbus unit is:

 

3T0 035 680 B
HW 11
SW 4120

When installing the columbus I updated my can gateway to a newer version 1K0 907 530 L, so I wouldn't have the battery drainage issue. Coded the columbus to gateway as well so it will show the data on the maxidot. I applied Josi's fix for Skoda Octavia A5 - fix for 3xxx/4xxx software also. Before Josi's fix I would get stuck on Audio and Navigation on the maxi dot i.e. I'd have to shut down columbus in order to get back to the main menu where I can choose from MFD, Audio, Navigation, and Setup. After applying the fix I can get back to the main menu normally by pressing the up or down button on the wiper stalk.

Now my problem is that when I access the Audio menu I can't change the track or radio station by pressing on the wiper stalk button, nothing happens. It should change it but mine does nothing. Has anyone else had this same problem?

Just wanted to confirm that a similar problem I have is related to the original post here. I had the Columbus unit in my 2009 Superb Elegance replaced under guarantee by the dealer a few weeks ago (it had developed the constant reboot problem two months after I bought the car) but since then there are no navigation options in the maxi dot display.

 

Everything else works fine, but is this the "Untick the BAP Protocol box in either Radio or Navigation" fix that is required? Which is a VCDS thing, yes?
