Another Yeti sized competitor from Peugeot

Not a drivetrain to own outside the Warranty period I think. :wonder:

  • Please, please, please Skoda....leave the looks of the Yeti alone. Are these god awful pictures enough evidence not to change. The styling, practicality, and just sheer driving experience of the Yeti

  • Too Fussy and Pretty for me. Might look OK in pink for the ladies.

I like the look of the DS5 with the diesel hybrid engine, but wouldn't spend my own money on one.

Anyway, getting slightly back on track, I do like the small soft-roaders, as do the general public judging by the number of Jukes I see.

They make a nice alternative to a standard hatch, and I wouldn't mind a test drive of one or two at some point.

Yes,facelift 3008 being made by the Dofeng-PSA joint venture which located at my city Wuhan, but I prefer Yeti.

Totally Square.

The tone based "emergency call" system as used in Europe is definately not enabled in the UK. Both our numbers (999,112) are completely voice based. As we understood it there is a problem with the tone/frequency interface in the UK, but the comms expert from Wales Air Ambulance who gave us the talk wasn't willing to elaborate over this (??)

Petrol/Electric 4x4's

A friend works for a Lexus main dealer and says they have had quite a few (expensive) warranty claims recently where people have tried to drive through flood water which has shorted out the rear motor.

As has been said, not a system I would want out of the warranty period!

I love the technology. BUT if I was to buy it won't buy it in the 3008. Way too weird. THIS is the one I'd get as it uses the same drivetrain. It's like a bigger more beautiful Octavia Scout. I think it looks fantastic. But £36,000 for a Pug? Dream on.

But give it twelve months and it'll be half price and have two years warranty remaining!

When your 3008 breaks down (which seems to be around every 20,000m for me) you can press the peugeot connect button and their concierge service will pass on your location to the RAC/AA. I assume the SOS button works the same albeit without you having to talk to Peugeot.

I don't think any French car is really a competition for German cars so Yeti will be fine

Be careful.....the problem is that 'Peugeot' cars for argument sake, all look the same (from the front at least). I can't tell any of them apart !!! Now look what's happening to the Skoda range !!!!!!.

Whereas Auto Express were far more complimentary about it.

The Peugeot 2008 doesn't necessarily offer anything new in the compact crossover class but it's comfortable, spacious and classy, while boasting a price that's low enough to draw in buyers that may have been looking elsewhere. Peugeot is expecting just an £800 gap between 208 and 2008 models, which seems like a low price to pay for a car that's almost as efficient, a little more comfortable and a whole lot more spacious. The 1.6-litre e-HDi diesel is our pick because of its excellent performance and refinement

I had a 208 as a courtesy car recently and liked it, so I'll be having a closer look at one of these to make my own mind up.

Well according to this Autocar first impression...

Interesting...the comments seem to have been disabled on this review now after several posts disagreeing sharply (though not abusively) with the author's view. That's pretty bad form - critical but perfectly non-inflammatory comments and the comments get pulled. (at least on my browser AFAICS). Autocar seems to be the last source of tolerably objective car reviews and even that's now subject to the thought police. Here's hoping that it's just a temporary glitch.

The 2008 prices are out now. Top of the range is £19k for a 115bhp diesel with leather, sat nav, dab radio, glass roof, climate, etc.

0-60 in 10.4 and £30 road tax

An interesting alternative to a mid spec 2wd yeti.

I'm off for a nose at one tomorrow.

Cool... let us know your thoughts. Especially once you've set the seat if you can see the dials over the top of the steering wheel. Or if the steering wheel has to be on your lap to see the dials, meaning you struggle to get in and out...

Will do.

It's just their showroom launch with no test drives today, but I'll have a good idea on the seating position and interior quality.

First impressions were positive.

The one in the showroom was a pretty high spec one with very comfortable, sporty half leather seats. I'm 6ft1 and with the seat in a comfortable position there was room in the back for me to get in.

The steering wheel felt a little odd. With it all the way up the top was just below the instrument binnacle, but it was slightly lower than I'd like and is on the small side.

The rest of the interior was nice with plenty of kit and decent (though not premium) materials. The dash has a nice blue led illumination, as does the panoramic glass roof. That makes it feel very roomy and light though I woul prefer it to open.

The boot is decent, and the rear seats fold flat so it looks like a practical alternative to a Golf class car.

Exterior styling is always a personal matter, but I like the way it looks. A pretty poor choice of colours though.

Pricing is where it does well. On paper it's better than the juke (more fuel efficient too) and is only a little more expensive than the 208.

Obviously being 2wd only and no bigger engine than a 1.6 it doesn't compete with the better Yetis, but if you have between £15-19k for a crossover style car it's worthy of a second look.

I'm going for a test drive in a couple of weeks.

As you say in the lower Yeti price range and viz a viz a 2wd Yeti it does sound good. I think it looks good too. Especially next to that ugly Juke.

It's a bit smaller than a Yeti, and I wouldn't bet on them being as reliable, but that shouldn't stop them selling well.

The problem I have with all other so called SUVs is the ungenerous rear window size . The Yeti is brilliant in that respect as well.

And a decent first review:

http://www.carscoops.com/2013/05/driven-new-peugeot-2008-grown-up-208.html

Sounds a good car for the money to me if you are after something a bit different, of this sort of size, that's not as ugly and tiny as the Puke and is 2WD only. And standard M+S tyres! Bet they don't tell the owners how often they will have to replace those vs standard rubber if they use them all year around.

Don't like the "hump" over the front doors.

Don't like the handbrake.

And I'm still trying to work out why have "Terrain Response" on a 2 wheel drive car.

Don't like the "hump" over the front doors.

It means there's decent headroom in the back, unlike the Juke.

Don't like the handbrake.

It's a little odd, but felt ok in person.

And I'm still trying to work out why have "Terrain Response" on a 2 wheel drive car.

It's basically a bit of software, so minimal extra cost to build.

With that and the snow/mud tyres you should have more grip than a standard 2wd car but without the cost of redesigning the 208 platform for 4wd that few people would want, and less weight to drag round.

For the target market it makes a lot of sense.

Look guys! All that car that we see in this topic are trying to get inside the small SUV category.... Yeti i think its a category by its own! its a small SUV with a lot of room (not like Nissan Juke...it compares actually in room like Qashqai even if it is 10 cm shorter!)

A Pug 3008 parked next to us today.

"Bloated" is the word that describes it best.

It made our Yeti look positively stylish,as well as compact.

Updated "the List".

Nope – they all look the same, still. Except one...

I'd like to see the Yeti without the curve at the rear of the front window, I'm not sure what that does for it from a styling point of view, apart from making it look like a Roomster

I agree it looks different. Until you add a Freelander I guess. Which does not have the "Hoffmeister kink" in the rear window like the rest and is really as boxy as the Yeti:
