Chippin the Furby ?

Featured Replies

Whats the minimum miles u guys would recommend a jabba remap ? I love the Furby and its only done 760 miles so far but I am itching to get that chip in it!! Not to mention the suspension mods and brakes :D

I know I know its great as it is, but I think it can be an awesome sleeper :

Elton advises 2K.

Gives it time to loosen up and get the best from the rolling road runs.

Slap enough miles on it to make sure it's bedded in and especially brakes are behaving themselves, ditto with clutch.

I'd try clocking up at least 1000 miles, probably double that if you wanna play it relatively safe.

If you are good with the clutch (ie let it fully bite before feeding in the accelerator, rather than either dropping the clutch or planting it) it shouldnt be too bad :)

Get 10k on it for the best results, that's what I was advised.

Mine had about 16k on the clock when it was done. Ask Jabba what they think, though I wouldn't bother if it's got less than 5k let the engine bed in first

Agreed. If the engine has only 760 miles on it, it'll still be tight and not working to it's full potential. Give the engine time to loosen up a bit first, and you'll reap the rewards come remap time.

I waited until nearly 10k to make sure it was well bedded in.

I reckon as a minimum 2.5k

Just as a note Jabba is not technically a "chip" as such it is more of using the original "chip" and remapping it :-D

Also, the brakes will get a lot better - there's a difference of opinion on here, some people stick with the originals after a remap, others get octy brakes on or uprated pads etc... The suspension nobody would argue with ;)

Give it long enough to bed in, at least the 3k recommended before you do anything - you might be able to cope with standard bits once they're operating properly

The brakes are fine for a standard car and standard driving IMO. I had the odd bit of fade with my std Furby vRS when I had it, but then, I didnt exactly baby it ;) (so much so, I almost pity the poor fella that got it after me :D)

Definitely need to run in the brakes - they are shockingly scary when not run in. No really, they were scary. And that's compared against my Rover 100, 1.1 petrol. Which isn't know for it's best braking capability to put it mildly ;)

Most of the demo cars have been trashed hard so the brakes are pretty much 'done' ready for (ab)use. The new car really surprised me at first, only after about 1k the brakes felt like they were working properly.

Pads + uprated brake fluid will probably be sufficient for most, but with the remap it's more likely you'll really trash the brakes so might need to consider the rest :D

Brembo type brakes are imho overkill.

Octy ones - well they have a better design which helps the 'feel' in the brakes to be significantly improved. Stopping-power wise, I'm quite sure the standard vRS brakes are up to the job.

Every alteration to the car increases the chances of something not being covered under warranty. My approach is to keep it pretty standard if I can. Once I've crossed 60k (or 3 years) I will consider more radical stuff :D

I waited until nearly 10k to make sure it was well bedded in.

That was about a week from when you took delivery, right? :D

Cranking up the miles here too - about 500/week average. Strangely when I go to Holland for a week in a week's time, I'll do fewer miles, even though I'm gonna be driving from France and so forth.

Weird :D

Thanks for the advice guys, I'm going to wait a while then. Still enjoying the car in its standard form anyway. Just think an extra 40/50 bhp is going to add :D to my already :D face! ehehehe

When I first started driving mine I was that determined to put 5k on the clock I managed it in just under 5 months, but have now decided to wait till the warranty is over then I'll play with it just incase. But as said most people would say 3-5k is good and 1k the minimum, don't rush into anything to quick as it's still only just getting warmed up. I've noticed a huge improvement over the miles I've covered, the more I drive it the looser and more enjoyable it becomes.

Between 6 and 10k would be my answer, judging how mine's freed up since I bought mine (with 6k on the clock).

Not remapped yet, might even wait until the warranty's up...
