Don't wanna hi-jack your thread....but I'm interested in a couple of things....one of which was mentioned by another poster here 'silver1011' ....I'd love to know how to activate my cornering fogs!!! I don't have maxidot though - am I stuffed??

You can add to this healthy debate on corrnering fogs :giggle:

You need VCDS to activate them.

  • I dont think ive ever read a post from someone who doesnt appear to appreciate the extras on their car so much!! The Xenons are good, certainly better than the halogen setup on the Octavia from expe

  • I don't think the standard headlights are that bad tbh, they light up the A9 and A96 just fine when I head home on the weekends. Sent from my Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk 2

  • But it isnt the car controlling you though is it. The reason things are "automated" nowadays is because they are trivial and repetitive and are therefore more suited to being controlled automatically

Bugger......that's something I've never been diagnosed with......

Each to their own though but your car sound superb and really well specced.

I would take it back if it sounds like a superb im sure he wanted an octavia vrs :giggle:

I'd take 10% off your MPG figures until you've had chance to do a proper calculation. And your angle on the optional kit does make me smile, but to each their own :)

Enjoy the car.

Enjoy your new car,i recently got my dad a 2009 jag x type estate & it has every toy going on it & when he came to pick it up he was a bit overwhelemed by all the toys (he had a 2000 ford focus basic model) now after a few months of using it he is loving it & all the toys & wonders why he didnt do it sooner! only problem is what to replace the jag with in a few years time! :-)

replace the ford x type with another ford?

Seriously tho if my dad had something with all the bells and whistles on it he'd be on the phone within the hour asking if I could come over to switch it all off again!

Anyway Mr R what's wrong with A40's? .....apart from the obvious! I could have suggested a morris marina, now that would have been insulting!!!! LOL

Mr Ree are you absolutely sure the car actually has xenons? Some have confused the projector type lens on the stock halogens for xenons. If it's got xenon you will see the lights do a little "dance" when you turn on the ignition (at night of course!) and you'll have headlamp washers too. If you car does not have hl washers then you've got halogens, not xenons.

I have xenons on mine and they are fantastic. If your headlights are crap then either you have halogens or your xenons are broken.

btw A40's are cool.

Yup. They're xenons alright .

Got the fright of me life last night in the dark when I used the windscreen washer and the headlights suddenly went dull briefly.

They aren't actually broken though, but perhaps they need adjusting. The beam seems extremely low imo, or is that normal?

A40's are cool. See minters at all the classic car shows I go to during the summer.

Hope this 'attention seeking' post hasn't offended anyone btw.

Yes, I think you have a xenon alignment problem.

I would get the beam height and offset checked based on the usual MoT test procedure.

Talking of xenons, has anybody in here ever had one blow/fail?

Imagine the replacement cost is horrendous!

Saw a Beemer with a xenon out yesterday.

Not yet........and mines a 2006 with over 70,000 miles

The bulbs are about £45 or so for the octavia, so not completely horrendous.

But if you have a front end accident and totally smash them up, replacement is pricey.

depends where you look. I looked on powerbulbs and for oem replacements their range went from £90 to £145 PER BULB. Also, dont use the halfords book in store, it says you need a D2s when the manual says D1s

Oh, well that's a massive relief, as i was under the obvious misguided impression that they were a sealed for life unit, and were about £3-400 each!

Meanwhile, decided to tune into AM to listen to talk Sport and the footie this afternoon.

Managed that bit ok, but the list of my chosen FM stations came up instead of pre-selected AM ones.

Is this normal, or am I going to have to resort to reading the dreaded...OWNERS MANUAL?

are there any am stations saved yet? if not this might be why.

You really are trying to find anything to complain about aren't you lol

Mr R, are you an angler? If not it this could be your true vocation (as your getting an awful lot of bites!)

You might have to read the manual.

I have never even tried to listen to AM on my radio, so have no clue as to what the pre-sets should do.

The Bolero radio is brilliantly simplesss once you have spent around 20 mins RTFM & setting it up for you personally.

TP - off as you found to stop traffic interruptions - if you really want to you can setup to pre record any traffic issues early in the am before you set off & listen to them before leaving home.

There is also the auto volume for the radio/media you can set, that goes louder at speed on motorways & reduces when you reduce speed.

You can also set the volume for your the beeps on your parking sensors.

If your Parrot b-tooth is setup properly it should pause any music through the speakers for the duration of the call.

I appreciate that the tech in the cars can be irritating when you dont know what it does or how to use it, but it is worth spending time sitting in your new toy & spending some time looking at each new function & tailoring to suit you ( sir :giggle: )

No I'm not. I'm just inquistive! :sun:

I just found it a bit strange that when I changed over fron FM to medium wave....as i prefer to call it :nerd: ....that all my preset favourites on FM were showing, and there didn't seem to be an obvious method of saving said medium wave chanels.

I'll dig the wretched book out tomorrow. In fact, I might even take it to bed to read with me pipe slippers and cocoa. :moon:

Do have a nice day, and sincere and deepest apologies if the brand of humour i TRY and install in some of my posts doesn't actually appeal to you.

Well I enjoyed the thread mate.....made me laugh out loud.

You ought to meet my missus, she can't see the point in toys on a car.....until its freezing and she switches the heated seats on....or the lights that stay on until she gets her key in the house door when its dark.....or the display that comes up when she puts it in reverse and stops her running into things...... :giggle:

Tar lah!

I do try and install a bit of my 'own brand' into posts, but appreciate that some just see me as being a bit of a nugget..

The trick in my posts is the task of seeing and reading what are in essence the 'tounge in cheek' comments. :notme:

Meanwhile, on a more serious observational note, is there an inherent fault on the rear suspension of these vRS's?

I noticed exactly the same trait on this one as I did from a brief encounter with another mk2 vRS 5 years ago, meaning that if the corner you are driving 'round at above 30 is a bit uneven, the back end appears to 'skip and kick out' a bit?

If it had just been this one I'd be seriously worried, but as stated, I do remember this same behaviour in the other one I drove.

Got a shock when I 'blipped' the car in the car park last night and the headlights came on .

First time that's happened, and I haven't knowingly set it up to do that either.

Now THIS needs sorting.

Went out yesterday morning and found ALL the windows were down! :o

Snowy seats greeted me .

wondering how this could possibly have happened, and knowing that you can lower the windows on the Fabia by holding the key in the lock in the unlock position will do this, I messed about with the blippers, and found that if you hold the unlock button down, the windows do indeed lower!

What an absolutely useless pointless and potentially dangerous feature to have installed/programmed in.

I can only assume I must have leant on the fob for a while whilst sitting watching the tv that same evening.

I sincerely hope this can be deactivated. :wall:

It's a comfort setting in Maxidot... actually pretty useful in hot weather - approach the car blipping to unlock and all the windows go down and release all that hot air...

It might not have been you, Mr Ree:

http://www.briskoda....ing-themselves/

Oh bloody fantastic . :(

Thanks for the linky that I've now read and digested, giving meself indegestion.in the process.

Now I know many of you have laughed at and scorned me for my seemingly fairly high level of dislike for modern technology and nonsensical gadgetry, but THIS has just proved my point.

I REALLY enjoyed sweeping the snow off all of the seats on Monday morning....NOT. :@

So you can lower the windows at a distance on a hot day?

WHY? :wall:

I'll have to get it booked in under warranty to VAG commed I presume, and hopefully disable this absolutely and totally useless feature.

Any other annoyances I've yet to discover that can be disabled I wonder anyone?

Must say that after 2 weeks of ownership that I'm still finding this touch screen AND (particulary) the tiny heater directional buttons an absolute PITA.

Only giving my view and opinion before anyone else accuses me of simply looking for things to moan about.

Where's the flamin' cd multi changer hidden then too btw?

Thought they wers standard fitment on the vRS's?

Not in the lh cubby hole in the boot, and not under the seat either.

The Bolero contains an in-built 6CD changer.

As said, you can turn off the window feature you have defined as a 'useless' feature. If you have Maxidot fitted to the vehicle. If not contact your dealer to have this done. FYI, 'VAGCOM' is not a piece of dealer diagnostic equipment, they would use the VAS system to do this for you.
