If a 2.0 tfsi was running around 300bhp what mods would it need?

Featured Replies

agree with the above and its something @ shark we do the key is the op ask a q and people then said 300 isnt possible etc etc

so i answered yes it is poss,

Hmm, ok but as a tuner/sponsor Id have expected your reply to only consider whats SAFE and possible. Ive seen early REVO maps produce 'lovely' spikes for 'great' sounding pub talk peak figures. They didnt drive as well as smoother maps out on the road and used far too much boost imo - id only promote a possibility if it ticked two boxes... Did what the client requested AND didnt run the turbo or drivetrain excessively hard. :)

well thats just it the Q was what would need o be done for 300bhp it was then snubbed when people said its not possible !!!

i simply said it is possible as the turbo can flow 300 :-)

we cant say its not safe as currently as far as im aware boost threshold is still the same its just improvements in tiv mapping that enable more power to be released so im unsure why you all think its unsafe

its all down to the customer but this is not what was asked or replied to read my first post !!!

Thats fair enough imo. Good software skills over pushing the boost to get the figures higher I have no issues with! :)

Maybe things have moved on then. At the time when I upgraded to a K04, no one could get much more than 285bhp on a K03. Yes, it might be possible, but as others have said, how reliable would it be, and for how long?

It is all hear say with the car I'm looking at, no printout just the previous owners word. When I heard this I tj

My car made over 290hp on one RR day at AMDEssex when it was stage 2+ bLUEFIN. the comical thing was REVO stage 2 and Shark stage 2 cars were actually substantially quicker, which made me try another dyno an lo and behold Bluefin stage 2+ on dyno dynamics rollers was actually only making 251Hp lol.

Its ll a lottery with dyno figures.

Ask the previous owner what modifications it has had to achieve this and with what software. Its easy to say a car makes X Hp, but if you know, and more importantly HAVE SEEN the actual modifcations on the car you can have a much better assessment of he actual power.

I had a mate who bought a "Stage 2" Astra VXR with an alleged 296hp. The trouble was he hadnt had any powerful cars before so it felt crazy quick to him. I drove it and straight away said there is no way its running the power at all. The car turned out to be completely stock, (as well as a CAT D writeoff lol)

Its probably stock then with a k&n and big exhaust and in his / her head its now got to be about 300bhp :giggle:

oh dear another idiot !!!

the turbo will flow that the reason not many are getting to this power is one main under laying issue.. They have a big surface area wastegate and it blows wide open on stock on the stock actuator and settings. Give it 6-7months and 300bhp will be a very common thing for the k03 tfsi.

i will leave you people at that !! what you not hearing 300 is possible and without uprated pumps if you wanna go spend all your money on bolt on parts and not look into what has changed and why then thats your issue!!

some people lol lol

you do realise i havent commented trying to get you to buy from me im just telling you what has been happening so get off your high horses and step back into reality !!!

Interesting way of presenting yourself in the market place Clive. :giggle:

just because im a trader doesnt mean i will not comment back when people make directed childish and imo stupid comments at me

grizzle decided to lower the tone when all i did was answer the q the op asked

he is clearly the one with all the experience and knowledge !!!

I was more concerned with you calling him an idiot.

Not an ideal retort in my opinion but what do I know. :)

yeah harry think there be one or 2 changes int he mapping due to increased time spend on the working of the ecu etc etc

your not wrong in what you said at this point 6 months ago 285 was max but times changed and why i said above

i dont think there is much danger in it being unsafe as boost threshold is about the same ;-) but time will tell add a bit of wmi im sure there going to be a few suprises this year

technology changes very fast and hence why things do get better you just have to look at billet wheels and the huge difference they are making !! who would have thought a standard k04 on the 1.8t has done 300bhp and who would have thought k03s hybrids could see 330bhp ?? times change

hence my input

Sorted like a couple of men :)

you owe me a beer lol or was it i owe you ;-)

Have hidden a number of posts after reports and subsequent patch up.

Intent of thread in place, remember post if it helps ;)

My two pence , get the k04 kit , many tuners sell it and will support the mods to give you 300bhp. There is no point pushing the K03 to it's limits to get 300bhp you will only shorten the life of the turbo. The kits usually have the manifold and all the bit's needed. Also an uprated intercooler , and aluminum rad ( would suggest ). Along with the injector mods and mapping , the uprated fuel pump either the replacement HPFP or as some companies have started doing , uprated intank pumps. Better bakes , suspension mods mentioned. A front diff would help with the getting the power down. That's assuming you are starting with a 2.0 tfsi. They are slight diffences with the 2.0 tsi ....but effectively the same route. To be honest for relaible 300bhp , you will need supporting mods. Nobody wants a 300bhp once engine. If your car is an older model would suggest budget for engine and coolant silicone hoses for the sake of reliability. Good luck if you do and hope it gives you what you looking for. :bandit:

exactly as i reccommended, although 300Hp on a TFSI engine with a K04 is running pretty low boost levels, and isnt even remotely stretching the reliability or potential of the engine , however i would add

The fuel pump is not needed if your only after 300Hp with the K04 on the TFSI lump. The tuner will just request less fuel and thus wont achieve big power, but 300hp is easily achieved without the uprated HPFP, if you were to add the HPFP then your probably loking in the region of 315-320hp(if still runing the stock exhaust)

Intercooler isnt a must even at 320hp there wont be any issues with heatsoak except on very hot days as the car wouldnt be runing high boost, its effectlly a stage 1 remap for a Cupra/Ed30 which is designed to work on a stock car.

Uprated radiator isnt even required at stage 4; 450-500Hp power levels as the stock rad has proven itself capable of maintaining coolant temps.

Uprated in tank pumps arent needed until your pushing a GT28 or larger turbo, some guys have started using them on stage 2+ K04 cars purely to release a bit of headroom, but at only 300hp with a K04 you have loads of headroom.

I'm wanting that Loba 4xx K04 hybrid :D 450bhp? Yes please

Theres something potentially wrong with the LOBA though if you listen to the big tuners and various other performance tuning specialists.

The K04 manifold according to all the main tuners is a restriction on the potential of this turbo due to EGTs. Multiple tuners have openly asked about how they have combated the EGTs which are normally at the upper limit of safety when running stage 2+, so obviously using the same manifold to pump out an extra 100Hp (allegedly) will only compound the issue, LOBA are yet to answer any of the posts regarding it, plus when you look at the cost with all the ancillaries, you may as well go for a GTx2871 turbo upgrade which has a larger manifold etc and will run lower EGTs.

It does sound like a great option, but ultimately there are no confirmed figures across independant rollers. Statllers reckon they have had 450hp, but that the final map wont be running that output, however another guy in Denmark also has the same turbo and setup but made considerably less power, 370Hp and has now had to upgrade all the low pressure fueling trying to eek out more power, and also say it was low due to winter tyres being fitted to the car.

As Alex said, "if you go by the dyno figures floating around it produces more power than the Loba TTRS upgrade turbo which uses larger wheels, an extra 500cc and an extra cylinder.##

If it turns out tp be true then this will be a grwat alternative to the GT28 setups.

Upgraded Brakes

Why? You'll only need these if you're getting an upgrade so you can go faster than is safe on the roads, rather than for the acceleration.

I absolutely agree Mark, its all good and well upping the power significantly but when you leave the suspension, brakes and other components you ultimately have an American car on your hands lol.
