are skodas cool now?

Featured Replies

I started a new pupil today, picked him up at the train station... and his first words after getting in the car were "wow, what a cool car, wait till I tell my mates at work what I'm learning in!"

he's 30 too.....

I hope not it'll make my insurance dearer.

you are teaching people to drive in a Fabia Vrs?

when I was learning I had to make do with a 1.0l micra

Anyone who is only going for a auto licence cannot be used as a gauge for if a car is cool/smart/fun/etc :bandit: They just arnt 'car' people in my experience.

That aside, it depends who you talk to. Lots of people will still see the Skoda brand as ****e, one of my brothers **** buddies ripped the crap out of me for driving a skoda (she had an astra). It was only when she couldnt keep up with me she thought twice. Then there are the more educated ('car' people) that know better.

All Skodas are cool, especially the later ones like my newest car...a 1990 Rapid 136.

Gotta agree Dave

I can't recall ever seeing one on the Top Gear cool wall, which is the definitive list of cool cars, so no. HTH.

Skoda's have always been cool.........it that special low volume way

re Autos and people going for Auto Licences or lessons in Automatic cars.

I get my deck at the outdated ideas or opinions of 'Real Car People' that think anyone going for an Automatic Licence or lesson are not 'Real Car People' so have no idea or opinions on cars.

It actually makes me wonder about the 'Car persons' actual experience of people.

I must declare that i have an 'automatic car only licence'

& i also think Skodas are not cool. Thats why i actually have one and like them.

Skodas are cool because they aren't cool. It's a hipster thing, yo.

... I think I should grab my coat and slink away....

Just speaking from my experience, everyone I know who has a auto only licence sees their car as just a method of getting A to B and no interest in anything else about the car(s). No doubt there are 'car people' who only drive autos, I`m just yet to meet one. I wasnt trying to offend you or any other Auto licence holders.

Cool.

It will be good to hear from Sharkrider or any other instructors about 'car people' they teach.

Lots of young disabled get their licence at 16 and driving is their big passion,

racers, customisers, all sorts out their can only get an automatic licence or maybe get one first before going for a manual licence.

Clarkson once said "Skoda's are VW's for mean people" Fine by me

Fine by me too mate. I'm not overly bothered by people who've never driven a skoda critising them out of ignorance or prejudice. If they want to spend more on cars that are less well equiped, go slower and drive like merde then that makes me smile big time as I'm silently having the last laugh, which I do regularly!

Unfortunatley my 18 year old son (who's passed his test in a festa, but doesn't drive 'cause he's gone to Uni) likes my blackline, so all hope may be lost!

When taxiing him and his mates about I drive like Miss Daisy and make sure I hit a few bumps and potholes in the hope his mates will stick with their vauxhalls!

Keep the faith and the secret ;)

Other things what Clarkson has said:

Skoda, on the other hand, is not. Those of us who read car magazines know how it's come on in leaps and bounds. But let's be honest, shall we? Those of us who read car mags are the least cool people in the world

Then

Everything with a Skoda badge on it is considered to be seriously uncool; the picture of the Skoda Fabia represents all Skodas

Mind you, that was a while ago when the Cool Wall was still not like most of Australia atm - he's grown up a tiny bit since then :giggle:

So even later in 2011:

Skoda has never actually made something brilliant enough to overcome the Primark badge on the back. Until now . . . Ladies and gentlemen, please be upstanding for the Roomster

Who gives a flying **** about anything Clarkson ever said?

Yeah I take back my original comment, I should have phrased what I meant better. The people I know personally are not car people.

Alex Zinardi is one of the most inspirational people I have read about, I doubt anyone can say he isn't a car person just because he can only drive autos.

^ quite. I've an auto only licence, and drive a no shrinking violet vRS. Not a car person. Rubbish.

Amen to this. My wife drives a manual and she's definatly NOT a car person. Latest trick she's f**ked the key fob to her Seat. I'll add some photos on an OP at some stage for amusement

Skoda is not cool.

I'd say the mocking etc has gone from the brand, but I wouldn't say they're cool. Not really sure what VAG do make that's cool really, or any modern make for that matter.

I'd reserve that for something like the Alfas and older cars like the Alfa GTA or an old muscle car.

Does cool even matter anyway? :wonder:

I can't recall ever seeing one on the Top Gear cool wall, which is the definitive list of cool cars, so no. HTH.

The mk I Fabia vRS made it on there - either uncool or seriously uncool. I think it got a comment like 'drive past a group of people/women and no-one will look at you in that'.

I think they are. :D

I still think they are cool. B)

I never fail to spot different skodas when I'm driving about.

Most other cars escape my attention.

My mates prefer my old fabia than my civic. Still got a soft spot for it , must be love lol.

They are such sleepers though, that's what makes them great. My parents sat in my skoda expecting it to be utter garbage and was majorly impressed by the dash materials, seats and just the general quality of it.

Skodas are cool. That is all.
