thoughts on the fiat 500 track day car? stripped, paddle shift roll cage 180 bhp..

Looks nice

Those are very nice & so are some of the other special 500's.

I took out a £31,000 asking price one in 2 tone Black & White for a long test drive and loved it.

180 plus bhp.

There were several for sale at the Dealer from £26,000 - £40,000

Personally i decided that 2 X mk2 vRS @ much cheapness worked out as better value and the same fun.

the price is the only thing putting me off.... but that can be had for circa £18k........ (I'll recheck "offers" , but the RRP isn't what you will actually pay...)

this racing version seems much less in cost than the ferrari 695 version (£30k) ....

I SO like abarth... but they are so expensive..... there are some nice special editions on the punto abarth to... still circa £17k.....

here: from the official website, knew it was uch cheaper than the ferrari special

For as little as £14,200.00 OTR you could be the proud owner of an Abarth 500 or something even more special and to really stand out from the crowd an Abarth 595 Competizione for £19,300.00

so £19k...... still too much :(

I drove one of the the First Abarth 500CC and the autobox was fun,

then the tuned ones box was not so, i so wanted to like it,

but

after getting a DSG, i would need to try one again to see, but my memory is that the Toyota GT86 was more fun,

& i used the paddles on that, where i never do use them much on the vRS..

Also too tight a fit for my bulk in the 500.

Have you road tested one yet?

A 'Cooper S' would be a better buy i think. Stripped and caged and usable.

An old Supercharged or newer Turbo.

no, but I'm getting the prices down... Both models are available to order now, priced at £17,725 on the road ... thats new (the turismo) so thats the extra power and kit, but proper seats and no roll cage....

I had heard the auto box wasn't very good.... its on my list to test drive this year ;)

ok, I found this on the auto box (that I heard was slow and dimwitted)

A wealth of rims to choose from, all 17" alloy, contribute to the car's elegance. In addition to the standard 5-speed manual gearbox, the Abarth 595 "turismo" is available with the electrically operated manual Abarth Competizione gearbox with controls on the steering wheel as standard. This enhances engine performance with reduced gearshift times. The gearshift paddles are located on the sporty black leather steering wheel with perforated "ears" the same colour as the seats, available only in leather in the four shades of Natural, Black, Red and Grey. The Abarth Corse by Sabelt versions are also available. Pedal unit, sill plate and gearbox trim in the high-quality Alutex aluminium glass fibre material complete the standard equipment.

says it has the same box as the competition version, i.e reduced gearshift times.... I think its a fast single clutch version... will have to drive it I think...

decent spec too :) I would have liked xenons and leather in my fabia ...

Main standard features:

1.4-litre T-Jet engine 160bhp (manual and MTA)

‘Turismo’ pack including Alutex pedals, footrest and door kick-plates, bespoke floor mats, machined aluminium fuel and oil filler caps

Dark tinted rear windows

Upgraded front and rear dampers

Automatic climate control

Leather upholstery

17-inch 10-spoke Diamond finish alloy wheels

Xenon headlights

Red brake callipers

Titanium Grey front and rear sports grilles

10 exterior colours

Price (MTA):

500 – £17,725 (£19,025)

right. its on my list. (the turismo, not the track day car ;) )

I'd like to transfer the guts into a rough looking Panda just to wind up plonkers on track days.

reading reviews on the MTA transmission, doesn't sound promising :(

These are not pretty, but you know how they go,

3 doors, lots of options, leather, wheels, brakes, lights , exterior bling etc.

Not cheap, (yet) that might depend on how they sell,

*prices might become good depending on how VAG start dealing with the problem Twinchargers.)

The seats are gorgeous!

Really like the look of the car

Great find,

then there is the 'Arnold Clark' part to it.

They are fun to deal with.

Best to always see that the vehicle does exist and never place an order on one that will need to be delivered to them.

They will happily sit on your deposit for many months.

I had a new Registration plate bought ready to go on in the March & was waiting to get the insurance arranged.

Luckily i found a contact in Milan after going through the Fiat Media Centre, that found that no order was ever placed for the car i waited 4 months for. a Fiat.

Worth trying to see if the Spoof 'AC' Websites like the Kwik Fit ones, still exist.

problem is until now, I couldnt find anything like the vRS for the money.. (clio RS, veloster turbo ect, all offer 180+bhp and twin clutch gearboxes, but way above my £15 limit) but now I've found a possibility, as much power, more toys, cool looks, cheap enough... but damn, if their auto box is so bad, it would mean going back to a manual!

I will have to test drive, I suspect I will keep the vRS and extend the warrenty when it runs out, don't know what the prices of the rapid vRS will be, next gen fabia vRS too far away (maybe not if I keep mine another year and a half!) octy vRS too expensive (new one) ..

if I did get one it would be going to my trusted local dealer (fiat) that looked after my punto for 110k for servicing ect , not to arnold clarke ;)

In the NE it's pretty hard to buy a Fiat that isn't from Arnold Clark.

Had a little play with one in Windsor in my twinair it sounds amazing, pops and crackles!

I had heard they actually pop and crackle!

They do indeed pop and crackle, the house 3 down from me has one and its noise puts my fab to shame :(

Looks nice, but not sure I'd part with 15k for one... :D

Chris

Fiat 500 Abarth would make a great track day car, I love the little strut they have to get the engine cover to clear the bigger carburettor.

Oh, hang on, I may be showing my age by thinking about a proper 500 rather than the current plastic one!

Rob.

For £15k its the best sounding new car out there!

Though if the rear is anything like my twinair it gets unsettle over anything that is not smooth.

A mate of mines brother flipped his on the motorway so my guess is its the same as your twin air.....personally i always expected them to be quite planted but it appears not :(
