25 bhp less..

Featured Replies

Hey guys, recently got a re map which should be producing around 170-180, but its only producing 154.. the guy with the rolling road said it could be because of my MAF sensor (none-bosch one) but do you think it could cause a 20-25 bhp loss alone? I posted about this the other day but i never got a reply i needed, because im gonna go buy a new MAF shortly unless you guys think that aint the problem..

Cheers!

Yes it could be, but it could be all sorts of issues.

Have you had it scanned with VCDS to see if anything comes up?

Nope, wouldnt know where to start :/

Find a local member or garage with VAGCOM and get them to plug it in and do a scan.

The car will keep a record of any MAF faults and you can investigate further.

I will say though were you happy with the map before you got put it on the rolling road?

Is it only now you've seen a RR figure that you feel short changed?

If you were happy with the performance before someone put a number on it; is it really a problem?

Yeah i know what you mean mate, i am happy with it, i just like things to be right though, and if its not producing what it should then theres definitely something wrong somewhere, and it anoys me, haha..

oh i agree it's just a balance of cost v having those extra HPs ;)

have a check here and here and you may find a helpful local member who will do a scan for you

Ah thanks mate :)

What is the map have you had put on? - some aren't as good as others...

Have a look at the cheap stuff first.

Give it a full service, replace the intake filter, check for boost leaks on the boost pipes (particularly the clips on the intercooler connector) and check that its running the right right by getting hold of a VAGCOM :)

If not, it could have just been the rolling road.

Nothing wrong with the rolling Road mine made 180 on the same day, I've said twice now replace the maf sensor with a genuine one it can cause power drop.

mine mad 156bhp before and it was put into vcds and maf was fine its was the n75 valve. do you know what your boost was like?

Ah right, ill post a pic of the printout in 5 mate, gonna get it VAGCOM'd asap

Ok that's a terrible picture, but it looks like there's a massive dip in the torque?

Haha didnt realise it was that bad, this one is slightly better

I think you need to find out whether that dip in power and torque is due to the map, or something wrong.

Can you feel it drop in power?

Nope i cant mate, if i get a vagcom reading and it comes out alright then will it be down to the map?

No not necessarily.

Could be N75 valve.

Run some logs and see requested vs actual boost.

Have you checked your boost pipes are properly secured and have no leaks?

torque is healthy @ 303lbs/ft but then drops badly.

Nope i cant mate, if i get a vagcom reading and it comes out alright then will it be down to the map?

Log group 3 (MAF readings) from 2k to around 4.2k should read 1100 is at around 2.5k dropping to high 900's at 4k.

Also log group 11 which is requested vs actual. And also group 8 which shows fuelling logs. Do them all separate as you get better sample rates.

It's not the map my mate looked at it briefly (who owns the dyno and does tuning HE DID NOT DO THE MAP), the map runs high turbo boost up top too however initially it looked okay. Although he said the map was good but not brilliant. Unfortunately the EGR delete pipe didnt have a boost nipple on.

Just to point out i was there that day, with my car that made 180BHP it just so happens Ell was there and was surprised when i see another VRS for a dyno run :D

It was chugging out thick heavy black smoke on WOT overfueling and even ignited at one point when it exited out of the exhaust.

My mate has done quite a bit of fault finding and tuning with vags and said it's most likely the maf sensor due to not being a genuine one or a re-manufactured one, had a golf exactly the same.

Ell, if you can wait two week or so I'll be back home and do VCDS logs for you. Or if you come up Newcastle sometime i can do it. If the maf sensor is at fault it will be given the ECU erroneous readings which would cause your problem/power drop.

VCDS logs would pretty much determine if the MAF sensor is at fault and yes it can cause a big power drop like that. But as i say I'm with my mate as he is pretty good at tuning etc.
