Superb Elegance TDI 170bhp DSG: Buying

Featured Replies

The elegance trim is the one to pick if you like your gizmo’s, from his list everything comes as std on the Elegance apart from the two items in red (heated rear seats and front sensors - these are NOT Park Assist, you need the extra sensor on the wheel arch of the bumper for this, which this car HAS = it HAS Park Assist)

Std spec / options on the car in the link:

Heated Front And Rear Leather Interior,

Colour Screen Sat Nav,

Xenon Headlights,

Front And Rear Parking Sensors,

Electric Memory Seats,

Cruise control,

Climate Control,

Traction control,

Alloy wheels,

Electric mirrors,

Electric windows,

Air conditioning,

Radio/CD,

Computer,

Multi function steering wheel,

Front armrest,

Front fog lights,

Tinted glass,

Driver airbag,

Passenger airbag,

Adjustable steering column/wheel,

Remote central locking.

Spare Key,

Auto Lights / Wipers,

The sat nav will be the Columbus unit (std on the Elegance)

As you rightly say they are not a Škoda dealer, searching on google brings up a row of 4 houses on their address, so I assume their plot is new… but why drive all of the cars to a grassed area to take the photo’s???

The earlier Superb’s do not have separate DRL’s (in the fog light unit) this was introduced in late 2009 (59 reg)

DRL’s:

The above car also has the ‘Luna’ (free option) wheels, which do not corrode due to there being no polished diamond cut finish that is found on the std option ‘Themisto’ wheel below.

As you can see the older ones have a silver piece of trim inside the foglight unit (outside edge) where the DRL is on the newer cars.

As for the car you have linked to, personally I would not look at it:

1/ for me to own a DSG it would HAVE to be in warranty (all s/h cars from a Škoda dealer will have 12 months warranty - check it covers the DSG and Columbus though)

2/ The dealer does not ‘feel right’ to me,

Cheers Gizmo!

Was just tempted bu the price (but not mileage)

And front sensors (not seen many of these).

Is Elegance standard for SD card reader?

And CD Interchange?

As with the Octavia (hard to find L&K DSG with satnav).

Again the Superb though with satnav - not found one from dealer

with front sensors for below £15k :-(

Certainly none with Heated windscreen for less £20k! :-(

Yes the Columbus has a CD slot (can play DVD’s whilst stationary also) and an SD slot, TBH though you will not use CD’s after you start using the SD card.

I don't think it was ever classed as a F/L as the car had only been out just over a year, the changes were also pretty small, I think the DRL’s was the main change.

I stand to be corrected on this bit but I don’t think any of the MKII Superb’s came with a spare wheel as std… it was a cheap upgrade option though (just not on a Greenline) the ‘full size’ spare is just a 205/55/16” anyway, the full 225/40/18” was never an option as a spare.

Ah yes, I missed the badges on the speaker grills.

What is your budget for the car?

Cheers guys!

Er...a bit lost on the DRL.

So the 1st pic is newer car with look like tear-drop below main headlight as DRL?

The 2nd pic is older car?

With blue tear drop?

With corrodable 7spoke alloys?

My budget was £8k for Octavia vRS TDI 170 DSG

Thn £10k for Octavia 1.8 TSI DSG L&K.

Now maxing at £13k for Superb TDI 170 DSG.

Preferably from dealer

Metallic dark blue

Full spare

Front park sensors

Heated windscreen

Reasonable?

My old 2008 Elegance had a steel spare wheel when I bought it.

On early cars the DRLs were in effect the headlights run on 90% power. On later cars the DRL moved down to the foglight housing using an additional bulb. The teardrops you see are the headlight washers.

The Columbus satnav does not come with a CD changer, instead it has an internal 30GB hard drive and an SD card slot. You can use the CD drive to play music CD's, CD's and DVD's with MP3 files. You can also play DVD movies whilst stationary.

The chrome (and blue) bit under the headlight is the headlight washer cover, I thought these has always been chrome on the Elegance… it looks like the early ones were colour coded?

This probably shows the DRL better (ignore the year its wrong)

Superb-DRL.jpg

The earlier cars have a ‘blank’ where the DRL bulb is and they use the headlights for DRL’s.

Nice one, Manny!

I dont kno if they wer standard or not.

But know newer cars came with a can, unless u pay extra for the spare?

  • Author

Manny: so DRL for older cars wer just dipped beam???!!

Gizmo: cheers! I know now.

So, newer cars had a bulb for DRL (not LEDs in a line? :-()

Yes unfortunately LED’s DRL’s are not std on any Superb (but I have changed my bulbs for CREE LED’s so at least they are a nice white colour.

How about:

Elegance 170 DSG

June 2010

64K miles

Park assist (so you get your front sensors)

Steel Grey

£12.,495

Don’t go by the spec that Škoda put on there website however as they rarely include any of the optional extras the car may have.

Depending on what phone you have you may also need to change the phone prep (iPhones need the latter - mid 2010 phone prep)

Cheers Gizmo!

But i didnt know it had Park Assist?

Do i need to go to Specsavers?

It can be difficult to spot, look for the sensor on the from wheel arch (about 10 o'clock position on the N’S arch / 2 o’clock on the drivers side)

You can just see the sensor at the bottom of the photo below:

But, did someone on here saying something about Arnold Clark being a bit dodgy?

The reality of life on motoring forums (fora?) is that people are more likely to post if they are unhappy, than if they are happy.

My experience of Arnold Clark has been generally positive. Over the past 25 years, I have purchased quite a number of cars from them, and have never had any major problems. Most of these cars have been either new, or nearly new, and have therefore been covered by manufacturers warranty. Any problems have been sorted out in a satisfactory fashion.

Only had one 'out of manufacturers warranty' problem, on a Volvo 740, which I purchased at 2 years of age, 85,00 miles, as an ex-lease car. (bought it in 1990). Wasn't purchased from a Volvo franchise, and Arnold Clark's techs couldn't solve a misfire between 1500-2000 rpm. They volunteered to pay to have the car checked by the local Bosch fuel injection specialists, who identified the problem in minutes, replaced four neoprene injector seats at a cost of around £1.50 each, and gave the car a full ignition and injection service. Arnold Clark had agreed in advance to pay this.

Much more recently, I have been running a Mondeo, and my wife a Focus and our local Arnold Clark Ford franchise have been fine. Even when out of warranty, I let them do a £69 service once a year to keep a 'Ford' stamp in the service book.

I'm sure others may have horrendous stories to tell, but in my experience, they are no better or worse than many garages. Of course, with the number of branches they have, the attitude of individual service managers can have a lot to do with customer satisfaction.

The Elegance.

Apart from extra toys in Elegance, any other reasons?

Heated windscreen!

But no Park Assist :-(

The 2.0TSI Elegance was my choice, but this was only introduced in early 2011, so if your budget is still £13k I don't think you'll find one at that price.
