CREAKING WINDSCREEN

Featured Replies

Since the onset of the colder weather on a cold start up and driving off I have noticed creaking noises coming from the lower right-hand side of the windscreen. Once the car has warmed up this noise seems to disappear unless I drive over a really rough part of the road, railway crossings or manholes, which causes the noise to sound. Has any Yeti owner had any similar problem please?

I have the same thing. I guess it is purely due to the plastics contracting due the lower temperatures.

Mine only started when it got down to just about freezing.

We did a two hour drive recently and by the end of it, the noise had stopped which adds weight to my thought.

Not worried though as I'm sure it will disappear once it warms up a bit.

Thankyou.

Same here also but thankfully nowhere near as bad as the dash associated noises with the first Monster, particularly when cold; think old door with rusty hinges.

CFB is right. The creaking is most likely the plastics contracting and expanding in accordance with the temperature.Turning on the heating in a cold car left overnight in sub zero temperatures warms up the cabin and the plastics begin to expand by the heat.

Ill give you an example what happens in my country.(not automative related, but the same principle)

During the summer here where I live, the temperatures soar to 40 degrees daily. When turning on a home airconditioning unit , it makes quite a din until the units plastic finishes to contract from the sudden cold. When turned off,the opposite happens. The plastics begin to expand to match the warmer ambient temp and the unit plastics click and crackle again... :sun:
