coolant/antifreeze question

Featured Replies

I checked my coolant and it is about 1cm below the minimum

my boyfriend got me a bottle of coolant but i'm not sure if it is ok to use, have looked in my manual but the names of coolant seems to have different formats and i have got myself confused

My car is a skoda fabia 1, 1.2, 2008

The coolant my boyfriend purchased is BS6580:2010, TL774D

The conclusion that I came to is that I cannot use it, because my manual states that my car was factory filled with TLVW774G

Please can anyone tell me if I am correct?!

Many thanks!

Where did he get it from?

Is it purple G12+++?

If it is, it's fine to put in with the factory stuff.

I used TL774D in my Fabia VRS just last week and its been fine. :)

Only ever use the stuff from the dealers VAG/Audi/Skoda.....must be the pink/purple G12 Plus.....or latest ++++++ version

+1 on G12+. G12++, or G12+++ :)

It's not even that expensive keeping in mind you need to dilute it with water at least 1:1, 1:1.5 water is still OK for the UK.

I would not use anything else, best case it works, worst case you mess up the rest of coolant and the engine with it.

Halfords advanced pink stuff is ok too

i think the stuff he got me in red (left it at home so cant check at the moment)

he got it from autosaves, they should swap it though if it is the wrong type

Am I right in thinking there is two types of coolant?

2 major types, blue and pink, then a lot of minor types in pink. Never add blue to pink and vice versa.

VW's G12 can be topped with G12, G12+ or G12++, G12+ can be topped with G12+ or G12++, and G12++ can be topped only with G12++.

Aftermarket alternatives are really not recommended, as corossion protection and lubricating/sealing capabilities vary. You do not buy coolant every day or even year for that matter, so why not get the right one.

G12+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

G12+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

That's not expected to be released until 2132, for cooling onboard reactor ;)
