I used to have a 1.2, i never heard it at idle!!!!!

Part ordered, not in stock so was told could be a few weeks - let's hope it is a little sooner than that :D

I rang my local stealer (SEAT New Southgate) who said it should be a couple of days... would be nice to have something to play with at the weekend :D

I'm hoping it will be in by next week at the latest - last time they said it wasn't in stock it arrived three days later as well, so I'm hoping :D

Should be very easy to fit - I doubt it will make a great deal of difference as my car has already been sound proofed under the bonnet lid, as well as under the 'carpet' front/back, plus in the boot, but if it shaves off a little more noise it's worth a shot.

Not too worried about the extra heat it may produce as the same engine is in the Seat without it causing a problem :)

My Mum has the 1.4mpi, didnt think the engine was on, dead silent

The 1.2 can sound like a bag of nails - not like a diesel, but it's just clattering. Not really sure if this is coz the thing is basically starved of its fuel till it nearly stalls, then gets given a little juice. Low emissions-related probably, who knows :)

Hi

Thanks for the heads up on this mod. Ordered it Monday, turned up Wednesday. Took a whole 2 minutes to fit. The difference in sound is a reduction of the top end clatter. Cant say for sure what the cut is, guessing around 6db in the radiated sound from the cambox, but well worth the money. Car is now noticably quieter (in terms of cambox clatter) at idle (inside and outside the car), in general driving and most noticably when going along on cruise at lower speeds.

Chris

It's a really strange mod this as it doesnt get rid of the noise but reduces the sharpness etc of the takakakakaka sound (ps I'm sure a non-Fabia vRS driver may have coined that sound first :P )

I'm not sure what the impact is with regards heat retention - but I can't really imagine it being a big problem considering the engine cover itself etc.

Did you find it was a bit odd-looking too, kinda like it had been broken and then 'hooked back together'? :D

I'm going to order this. The Seat garage that I bought my Strut Brace and Intake Pipe at will be laughing again. They say theve had a run on Seat parts from Skoda owners!!

Just ordered this part from my local Skoda Garage, Cant wait to get it fitted, apprently they can order SEAT part numbers:thumbup:

It's dead-easy to fit - take off engine cover (pull up at front, slide towards you (when standing in front of the car) and put somewhere).

Then put the weird looking item on (it fits one way, you'll know it when it's lined up).

Put the cover back on.

Done :D

Anyone got a piccy...the original I cant find.

Just fitted a sound proofing kit to my Furby - it's a SEAT part as fitted to the Ibiza TDI 130. Thought it might cut down the clatter at idle. Clatter is more muted, but the big drop in noise is on acceleration and M/way cruising. At the legal limit you cannot hear the engine at all. I know this won't suit everyone, as for some the noise is half the fun. But if you do a lot of long M/way journeys the extra refinement is welcome.

Part No. is 038103954G, not cheap at

I will post a picture as soon as i get it fitted, Dealer reckons it will arrive next week at some point

Fitted this mod myself at xmas. It's made a big difference, cold starts are quieter and cruising is aswell. It mutes the diesel chatter that the pd motors make. I would really recomend it, even at the

Cheapskate idea - going off the picture ?

I think I'll just turn the Stereo up.

You got a stereo in yours - knew there was something missing. Might be something to do with the gaping hole in the dash.

Goddamn Dealers saw me coming.

The wiggley lines on number 12 show its been cut. So I can only prosume it goes round the whole engine.

Still does seem a lot though

I wouldnt go for that option either - sure the price is not exactly low, but the material used is safe for the job. As already pointed out, flammable = bad ;)

You could probably use an approach like the one you suggested for several other areas in the car though, there is a fair bit of potential to reduce noise at the back of the car, although in that case a bit of dynamat equivalent material may be easier :)

Nice to hear about how happy some folks are with this mod - remember seeing it on E-E's car at TRAX..

For me, I've gone the other way - cooling is far more important than noise level out where I am- no engine cover, no extra padding around it.

Actually, perversely I prefer the look - bit retro (like me I guess). Looks like an engine that's been tweaked with, rather than stock...

Cheers

Bas

I just checked & I appear to have that bit of foam already fitted to my car !

Maybe it was fitted as standard on Elegance models, I dunno ?

Either that or the the previous owner fitted it.

Anyway, suits me, I'm happy

Just ordered mine today. Seat dealer reckons it'll be around 5-7 days due to being a back order.

I haven't actually checked under my engine cover so will have to have a look over the weekend to check my '06 vRS hasn't got it fitted too.

Cheers

Dave.
