Wow - used my Winter tires in anger today

Recommended Posts

That soft, flobbery siped rubber that grips on snow and ice is just TOO soft and flobbery for dry asphalt. Proper summer tires will have way more grip.

Then again I would think that american "all-season" would be a good fit for UK weather?

Evo mag has just done a winter tyre test. Came to the same conclusion - in the dry, whatever temps, a summer tyre grips at least as well / often better than a winter. In the wet, no, in snow much worse. The Uniroyal winters I have on ruin the handling, it's a soft squidgy mess, but I'd rather that than be stuck on a 0.001% incline should it start to snow again between now and April.

Whatever tyres were on the Passat I was in today are seriously good, at least from the passenger seat at 130mph at times felt as rock solid as a bouncy diesel passat wagon can. I had to resort to posting in here as a distraction from the fear of impending death.
