No.

That only happens when you turn the ignition on.

And it is a much higher pitch.

re your BONG, as opposed to the Welsh one... are you by any chance depressing the left roller button on the steering wheel. This activates the phone system and announces itself with a pronounced chime. (If you can find the Freshacre channel on YouTube where I've put a short vid of the Yeti climbing a short sharp green hill. As I turn at the top ready to descend, I catch the button and you can hear the BONG. It IS followed by a lady asking something, but you may not hear that.)

No, it's happened when I have both hand on the wheel and when only one hand has been on the wheel.

The weird thing is, is that there is no discernible time when It happens, I will of course look at your YouTube site and check it out.

Welsh bong.

English bong.

There'll be a Scottish bong next!!

MY bong definitely has an English accent Graham :D

What, Bob's behaving himself?

No chance!! :giggle:

And if that was the case everyone's car would do it..........................

I've been away ... I'm back!

I've been away ... I'm back!

:hi:  normal service is resumed

How long before you head for the corner

I've been away ... I'm back!

How was the skiing?

I've been away ... I'm back!

Oh goodie!!!

Sorry Bob, but no-one has been keeping your corner warm whilst you been stick-sliding, but at least that means the bar is still full.

Presume you had a good time and aren't hobbling around on crutches?

Skiing was excellent. Bucketloads of fresh powder snow. First week in Villaroger/Les Arcs and second in Samoens/Grand Massif. No crutches - I never fall over! In my younger days I spent 5 winters working in the Alps as a ski instructor. A bit slower these days than I once was - but still good enough to show most of today's youngsters a thing or two.

Perhaps it's your Yetis way of doing the equivalent of a teenagers morning 'ugg'

Bing bong bingly bong. After deep thought I've come to the conclusion, Graham, that the sound you have heard is what is known in the trade as an 'old Welsh fart approaching' alarm, and it's a warning to us, not to you. :sun: I know, I know, I'm on my way.

Back 2 days and he already knows his place!!

Are you sure you didn't bang your head whilst you were sticksliding, Bob?

Does this 'BONG' sound like the one you get if you drive off with one of the doors not fully latched?

Could it be the spring operated contact in the door jamb is slow to operate because of icing caused by the v low ambient temp?

No.

Is it the dinner gong?

What? At 0430??

Spoke to my dealer yesterday and although they didnt quite undestand what I was saying, they suggested it was a low battery warning

They couldnt answer when I said it didnt do it when my battery was so low it wouldnt start the car!!

Thanks Chris.

That was my initial thought, but it doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere in the Handbook.

I had the same thing on my work VW Caddy van. It's done it twice, both times in the morning when the temperature was low. First occassion baffled me but on the second there was actually a message on the stereo "LOW BATTERY" (even though the ignition was off) which only lasted a few seconds then vanished. Found it rather odd as the Caddy has a battery saver which cuts the power & needs manual reset if the battery voltage drops too low but this had not tripped out on either occasion.

So I think that may well be your "Bong"

  • 2 months later...

Today I thought I heard a familiar 'bong' when I was in the garden washing off a tent fly sheet, but decided I had imagined it.

Went to get in the car later on and the car 'bonged' several times! I thought it was because the boot had been opened and maybe it was a new alert having recently had my tow bar electrics coded. I then thought maybe it was a sensor gone wrong - maybe I didn't put them back right after I installed the tow bar. I then recalled this topic and thought it may be the battery has been flattened by the constant recording of the newly added Blackvue via Bossfoxes excellent group buy and maybe a combination of me (again) not installing the tow bar electrics properly (though realistically I doubt the latter cos it's a piece of cake to do). In hind sight, I now think that maybe the battery was low and each time something was used to reduce the battery level more (one door open and closed, the boot open and closed, another door open and closed, turn on ignition) it indicated the further drain with a warning bong.

So, having taken the mickey out of G by saying it might have been the dinner gong it looks like what goes round, comes round!

This is the low battery warning. You were correct in the opening post!

As mentioned above the 'bong' is accompanied by a very brief message on the stereo saying 'low battery'.

Been discussed a few times in the Octavia forum.

thought of pointing your blackvue at radio / dash when you leave the car? that way you can review if there are any lights or messages when you get the bong and hopefully put this one to bed permanenttly

Leaving both my Blackvue cameras on will drain my battery. Not so noticeable in good weather, but when the temperature drops the battery can't cope.

At least you'll get the 'bong'!

:giggle:

At least you'll get the 'bong'!

:giggle:

Only if I'm in the car

The battery has only ever gone flat on me twice. Both times the cameras were left on, the temperatures were sub-zero, and I didn't use the car on the Saturday, and came to use it Sunday morning early whilst still sub-zero and all I got was 'click, click, click.......'

The battery was long dead so I didn't hear the bong, but I'll know what it is if I ever forget to turn the cameras off again!

A TapaTalk enabled phone was used to write this...
