Okay, long story short,

I have a yellow 2006 Mk II Vrs Petrol in great condition, bought it from a fellow forum member towards the end of last year knowing it was a temporary car. Redundancy has been brought forward by about 6 months so car will be in the classifieds around the 4th March (as that's when I'm expecting my 'at risk' confirmation) - basically much sooner than expected : (

This is not a for sale add, I am a paid up member and will advertise nearer the time.

I can get the car wrapped for free in March, so, do you think it would sell easier wrapped in a different colour, as yellow is an acquired taste for a MkII and I think it might take a while to sell 'as is'

what do you think ???

IMO I would go for the grey, but then I'm biased and don't like yellow cars.

How about placing an advert up now stating when it will be available from and that it can also be wrapped FOC in (almost) any colour the buyer wishes?

I'd leave it yellow myself. Silver's sooooooo common.

I have thought about doing this, but fear it could be a load of hassle. Unless the buyer paid up front before the car was wrapped, I could get all sorts of prob's if they didn't like it once done. I was thinking about matt grey metallic as it's a bit of a 'now' colour, and the car is now at the price point where it's affordable to younger buyers.

Where did silver come from ??

One thing I'd suggest is that if you do get it wrapped take loads of photos and a HD video of the car befor you do with everything date stamped so you can demonstrate your not just covering up a lemon... any shots of them doing it too might help persuade perspective buyers it's not a labrador

Isn't this a pea-roast ? I voted to keep it yellow last time, for some reason or other.

the first post mentioned grey, one of the options in the poll was grey, so I assumed that meant silver lol

There is a reason metallic grey cars are more popular. It is a preferred colour.

Yellow is nice and suits the vRS, but it is clearly a Marmite colour.

If the sole purpose of wrapping the car is to sell it quicker and maximise the selling price then get it wrapped.

As recommended above take lots of pictures of the process so that you can prove to the prospective buyer you aren't covering up a lemon (excuse the pun!).

I don't get wrapping it, as the person buying will be buying knowing its yellow.

It won't be yellow though, it'll be metallic grey.

If it is already wrapped the buyer has a choice, metallic grey or yellow.

Ah, so misrepresentation then.

Only if he doesn't make it clear the car is wrapped?

I've never seen a wrapped car in the flesh, are the door jams and sills etc. also covered or would they remain yellow?

I'm guessing the original colour will also be stated on the V5.

Personally I would walk. I would expect a 6yr old vehicle to be as standard as possible. Use the money for a good detailing and sorting any things you may have let slip, and make sure service is up to date.

You could just mention the possibilities re a wrap as an incentive, should that be possible.

Leave it yellow, Im not keen on yellow cars but I nearly flew to the other end of the country to buy a lemon...

The VRS looks great in yellow imo and I think wrapping would put me off a sale, even if I knew the condition of its bodywork underneath was fine it just seems like a hassle the buying would be buying into.

Ok, so 80% on the poll say leave it as it is.

On that basis, I guess more people would be interested in buying an 'un-wrapped' Yellow car, than a wrapped 'different' colour car.

It's not about hiding anything, it's just that I still have the option of having the car wrapped for free, so thought it might be easier to sell in a different colour.

I would obviously take pre/post wrapping photo's and would make it very clear in the advert that it is a wrapped yellow car.

It's in very nice condition for a 6 year old car, as the previous owner would confirm

Hmmm a quandry this.....marmite colour and alot of people wont be interested in buying a wrapped car. Personally would leave it as is and perhaps reflect the colour of the car in the asking price.

At that age and price point if its well priced most people will probably be accepting of the colour as theyll be more concerned with the condition of the car.

My thoughts exactly, I would never buy a wrapped car unless it was cheap

I can confirm that this car is in good condition.

Might be showing my age here but I would not consider buying a wrapped car.

Have not investigated this but would not be surprised if insurance companies took exception to wrapping.

An original car would provide me with more confidence that the car has been looked after. When I think of a wrapped car, I think of a modified car that may have been owner by a boy racer - I fully appreciate this not often the case nor any insults intended to those who do wrap their cars, I'm just taking (in my opinion) what may be a prospective buyers perception.

I think a wrapped car would sell for less.

Or the dvla and police?

No need to inform the dvla as it is a temporary colour change.

My insurer more than has no problems with a wrap with no extra charge.

Although I've head of people being gobby to the police asked to remove a peice to prove the original colour!

As mine is silver with a silver brushed alloy wrap no problems at all, and the door shuts do not need wrapping to make it look good.

Keep it yellow. Yellow is a fantastic colour if you are brave enough. There are very few yellow Octys around, there will be someone somewhere who is looking for one. Mine's Anthracite, I've only seen one yellow Vrs - it looked stunning.

Yellow really suits some cars - look at GT6's and Dolly Sprints - they look so good in Mimosa Yellow.
