The Next Gear video review

Featured Replies

Rob Flavin from Ireland, or "smokerspack" as his youtube channel is called for some reason. Not really the most famous of video reviewers, but I like his work. And he always reads (and sometimes replies to) the comments under his videos.

Great video. Bob is great at doing those videos.

Lucky man!

Bob is a bit of a strange fish, but have been checking his vids for ages now.

Doubt new car will be on sale here in Ireland quite as quick as he suggests tho, not even a hint of a new model on skoda.ie yet, and they seem to be pushing a "special" of the old car.

Hope his ideas on pricing are right tho.

There is no way they will put details of a new model that won't be available until March up on the website. January is critical for the dealers and they will still have units of the Octy 2 available to purchase.

The car is not going on sale in the UK until around the same time, but skoda.co.uk have FULL details of the car up on their site,

Why not in Ireland?

Maybe they have cleared through their stock of pre-ordered Octavia 2 and have none left to sell ?????    That's the only explanation I can think of.

A Skoda representative on their facebook page said that the prices would be available last week but still nothing official other than the prices will start at 18.999 Euro (I presume that is for the 1.2 petrol engine which I think Rob tested)

They have the prices. I was in Sheehy Motors in Naas today and he gave me some "not carved in stone" prices.

2.0Tdi Elegance @ €29,500

2.0Tdi Elegance DSG €32,500circa.

Did they give you any info on what spec the Elegance will come with? Is Sat Nav standard etc?

Yeah, he reckons it will be specc'd pound for pound with the UK(about time)

Leather/alcantara standard and whatever the new version of the Amundsen sat nav is like.

Cheers for the info Vectra1, the base prices look good, but there are some choice options that I would like (some of which the UK get as standard) that I am sure will push the price well up. By the time you add everything to an Octavia to equal a Superb Elegance spec what will it cost?

Also strange how Ireland gets the 1.8 but not the 1.4, and is the other way round in the UK, where I think they would have many more takers for the 1.8?

It looks like the salesman I was talking to was severely misinformed. It looks like our Elegance is the match for the UK middle spec as per usual and it doesn't look like they are bringing in the 2.0 diesel with the DSG box.

They can keep it!!!!

Check out the new Mazda 6, 175bhp 2.2 oil burner.

  • 3 weeks later...

Wouldn't the mazda be a pure dog on price though?

one more

Bob's reviews are funny sometimes. Sound guy, took me for a spin in a 640d he had on test once and scared the crap out of me. Good to seen his reviews are becoming popular, he's really putting his heart and soul into the motoring journo gig which is hard to crack in ireland.

Check the price too, I considered a new model of my own 11 reg one and nearly cried when I got the cost to change!

If the new vrs comes in cheaper than the old model it'd be a very hard car to discount based on the reviews of the standard model.

love watching the nextgear, so much more detail than say carbuyer, and the accent keeps the interest going i think

I need the DSG (dodgy left knee)

The €32k I was quoted only has Metallic paint specced on, by the time I add Sound system, leather and a couple of other goodies I'm up over €35k!!

Crazy stuff.
