New tyres needed- Uniroyal Rainsport 2- Thoughts

Featured Replies

I'm sure they are W as standard, even though the car can't reach those speeds ! Don't think insurers are too happy if you put on less than what the car is originally specced with

I love mine on the Polo. Driven quite hard and (apart from the side walls) appear to have hardly worn.

I'll be replacing the Potenza RE040s on my BMW with them when needed too.

As for fuel, my consumption on those stayed the same as it was on the previous Dunlop Sports that the Polo had, but these are sooooo much quieter.

I shall report back with my findings!

I've been Looking a lot at tyres lately, its looking like the toyo t1R is the best able rounder out there. Ill probably opt for those.

How are they regarding fuel consumption ?

All on the Camskill website are rated E or worse for efficiency, except for Hankook V12s and Coopers which are C

On that basis, F for the Rainsports is pretty standard

I'm not sure if the rating are believable. The semi-slick R888 track day tyres have a better wet rating than the T1-Rs, B/C (R888) vs E (T1-R).

I read...so take that as you will, that due to tyre width that 205/45s will never be great on fuel, plus better fuel econ means less rolling resistance which therefore means less grip....

I bought mine off camskill for £65 each delivered, can't believe how good they are, even did a quick launch down an old back road tonight in damp conditions and they wouldn't spin up, extremely impressed so far although they are quite loud but that doesn't bother me.

I'm still loving the tyres, got them from a local independent tyre place that I saw advertising them in a local paper.

As for economy I haven't seen a huge difference, if any!

Never seen that thread before! :( lol wonder what would be better between rain sport 2 vs conti sport contact 2?

So many of these threads...Just going to paste what i put in the other discussion

Yea the RS2 are a good tire dont get me wrong but iv heard they wear out a little quicker due to the softer compound, the Falkens below last longer and have just as good wet grip, quieter and are cheaper per corner, as well as slightly better fuel economy

Think people just go for RS2 because its a safe bet from a forum recommendation without actually shopping around, its like when people ask what mods to do to their car since their purchase at the weekend...why should a forum decide what you do and what you like=/

anyway, links below for research and comparison purpose

Are you talking from personal experience of having had the Falkens and Rainsports for direct comparison, or just going by the tyre label details on the websites?

The research wasnt just from website labels, that was just an example of something to look for, however if you are going to go by just the ratings on them there is a reason why they are displayed as guidance

Also something around the lines of a large price difference for a similar "spec" tire being really worth it

I like the Rainsport 2s. Currently got 4 fitted. They are comfy but IMO a little wobbly, in that the sidewalls aren't very stiff. If pressing on hard they wouldn't be my choice.

Contisport 2s, car came with them. A very good tyre. Steers far more directly.

Pirelli P Zero Nero or P Zero, had one of each on the front for a while. Gripped and rode really well. Though I didn't measure it, I have a feeling they didn't last too long though.
