Featured Replies

Are you saying you wouldn't consume a yoghurt if it was one day over the use by date?

I think hes saying only Tesco Finest and in date by at least 2 days :)

Your grammar may be good, but your reading skills aren't up to much, consuming and buying (as my comment stated) are different things. No i wont not buy out of date items out of a shop such as what i was implying you would do, but i have consumed out of date items. Read better!

Anyway, dazjenks is sorting me out so will update this in a few days to find out trade prices etc!

Now now :)

Agree with trev, genuine parts only for me, and no out of date yogurt either thanks.

Update -

Dazjenks got my stuff at trade price so heres how it tallies up now.

Oil - £19.35

Oil filter - £3.28

Air filter - £7.54

Sump plug with washer - £1.43

Total without vat - £31.60

Total with vat - £37.92

Fuel filters are £17 odd without vat.

As you can see, trade is alot cheaper than normal, i normally get trade prices when i go in but over the phone seems they give out normal prices. Thanks to dazjenks for that favour, this was only meant as a guideline to prices at tps as servicing is something we have to do, didnt realise it would cause an argument when i was only trying to help.

Only issue here is that some branches refuse to serve Joe Public. The Cardiff one serves anyone without question, but its upp to the branches who they serve.

If you tell a porky and say you are trade you may get around this but again it depands on the branch as to how strict they are

Yeah Cardiff are pretty happy to serve retail, but they charge me more than main dealer lol :(

Haha have you missed the point of this Topic in its entirety?

Your local TPS should be able to sort everything that you need mate.

haha silly me lol thanks hahahahaha

I meant the parts are cheaper because they aren't genuine vag items.

You're the type of guy that buys out of date food because "it's just the same but cheaper", same with everything in life, you get what you pay for.

I buy genuine parts for my car because i look after it. As do most of the people on here apparantly bar a few.

If you want cheap parts theres chinese copys of all the items for a few quid on ebay, thats right up you're street.

P.s i tried really hard with my grammar for you.

Without wishing to start some bizarre food analogy or grammar/spelling debate, It really depends on who makes the genuine VAG item. An easy example is spark plugs, I can buy 4 x Champion plugs with Champion and Skoda branding from Skoda or the same Champion plugs direct from my factor without a Skoda logo for less money, as it happens I prefer NGK. It's the same with filters, MANN make VW air and oil filters, Gates make the timing belt kits (some were Bosch years ago and some were and possibly still are Continental) and the list goes on. The point is it doesn't have to be VAG branded, you can get the same part for less money if you know who makes what for who.

That's not to say pattern parts are great, the thermostat on my car had been replaced with a french POS before I got it. It started to fail and after a quick look it was clear it wasn't OE so I binned it and replaced it with the real thing. It still has the same inherent defect that all mpi 'stats do but I know within 2 years if it fail's I get a new one fitted by VAG (after a fight). Perhaps if the pattern parts makers went back to the older 'stat design we'd all use them.

Hi guys. Just been on the website for trade parts specialists and they state that their service is not available to the general public. So how do I order the parts when they clearly state that you must order in bulk? Cheers

I dont use Genuine service parts, the only decent thing i buy is oil as that's the stuff that's going into the engine and doing the business :) everything else is just the same as the expensive things.

I've taken apart a genuine ford filter and a cheaper alternative with no difference at all apart from a brand name. there might be differences in designs but i couldn't notice a difference in the 4 years of owning the car.

Suppose it looks better on paper when it comes to being sold though.

See I have seen some non genuine stuff fall apart/not do its job after a short amount of time. When it's a oil filter then you soon think maybe it was worth the extra £2 after all.

Avalon's method is a good one, if your going non genuine make sure it's a decent make.

Exactly!
